What if someone used super buttery, herby, mashed potatoes as a base for a pizza instead of tomato sauce?

I suppose you could do something like a shepherd's pie pizza. Sounds weird but I'd try it.

Well, there's such a thing as potato pie ("shephard's pie") so why the fuck not

No matter how you look at it, it seems more sensible to me to do some sort of white sauce instead and simply have sliced potatoes on that

>> No.5969664

>>5969650
I agree with this.

One of the best pizzas I've ever had was a pie with bbq sauce, pineapple and thinly sliced red potato. No cheese. It was exquisite and the potato soaked up and distributed the flavor of the sauce and was sliced so thinly that it was just perfect. Brilliant.

you must be the downie that was seen in that subway post putting ketchup on his steak sandwich cause this is fucking retarded

>> No.5969713

If I were to do something like this I would probably thin the mashed potatoes to a sauce like consistency, with stock + butter.

Certainly add some leek and paper thin slices of potatoes as topping.

Has anyone tried vodka sauce instead of tomato sauce for a pizza? It sounds like it may be good.

That's such a good idea. Trader Joe's vodka sauce is the nectar of the pasta gods, and it would probably be delicious on pizza.

I could see a garlic/mashed potato/cream sauce being pretty good. Would be good with some extra thin gabigool slices on top

Seems like the alcohol would just evaporate during baking. Not seeing much point.

>> No.5971227

It seems like it would sound good on paper, but I can't imagine any way of getting thick and heavy mashed potatoes onto a pizza without the dough underneath cooking unevenly and/or it being a floppy mess when trying to pick up a slice.

I had a curry pizza the other day made of leftovers, a big chapati with curry on as sauce and cheese on top. Shit was good.

Sometimes I also like to make pizza with pasta on, with cheese sauce which congeals so I can have a slice of pasta on a slice of pizza

There's a restaurant in Michigan that does a mashed potato pizza. Never had it but everyone claims it's their most popular item.

>> No.5971327

Italianon here.
We have homestyle pizze where the crust is made from potato dough. They're not generally found in eateries but rather in people's homes, kinda like how someone might be hard pressed to find something like, say, American goulash in a restaurant in the US even though it's a fairly common home meal.
The bases for these homestyle pizza are both fried as well as baked and are much puffier, higher crusted and chewier than other style of pizza. They are called pizzette fritte (fried mini pizze) or pizzette fritte di patate (fried mini potato pizze).

Pizze with potatoes on them exist, but they're generally a topping on a white pizza, not as a sauce all their own. A white pizza will either be dressed with garlic, oil, herbs and globs of strained ricotta or with besciamella or mornay. The former (ricotta et al) is far more common than the latter (milk-based sauce).
