Can we get a thread for easy dishes from your country? Milk the international status of 4chan a bit.

Sadly, I'm from Denmark. Closest thing we get to a national dish is fried pork with parsley sauce. Which is easy, I guess.

Make a milk sauce and add fresh parsley. Peel and boil some potatoes. Fry some /thick/ bacon, and add the pork juices to the parsley sauce. Serve, indulge, and belch heart-fully.

This sounds like it should be disgusting but it's insanely nice.

Bread and butter pudding.

Butter both sides of slices of bread (works best with thick cut bread from a bakers rather than thin sliced), lay out in an oven proof dish, cover up to almost the top of the bread with a thin setting custard (don't use store bought as it's too thick), sprinkle a bunch of sultanas around.

Bake until golden.

Like a lot of british food, it's something really simple but good.

Notable mention: yorkshire puddings.

Either small ones to go with roasts or a large filled one.

Cover the bottom of a cupcake/muffin/cake tray with a thin layer of oil, heat up the oil until it's almost smoking, pour in a small amount of the batter mix (not quite reaching the sides, should almost be swimming in the oil). Bake until fully risen and crispy

It's got custard and sultanas in it. How does that not sound like a dessert?

Also pudding, as in suet pastry/sponge pre-dates pudding as a dessert. It's just it was more common for suet puddings to be sweet so the usage evolved for pudding = desserts, despite dishes like Steak and Kidney pudding still being relatively popular.

A real comfort food is 'Wortel Hutspot', it is a potatoe dish with carrorts and unions. Smoked sausage and gravy complements it.

1 kg potatoes
0,5 kg carrots
0,5 kg unions

Mash the potatoes, slide the carrots very thin, the same for unions. Ad some spices to make it less blend (salt / pepper). Top it off with some sausage and gravy And you have a really budget comfort food for in the winter.

I'm Indian and figuring out what would qualify as a national dish was a head scratcher. Every region has a different favourite and typically the style is pretty different from any other region. I'm fairly sure this is the best representation of Indian food. Every region does a variation of it. It's super cheap, very healthy yet very flavourful and of course vegetarian. It's so ubiquitous in Indian households it actually isn't very popular as a restaurant item because of which the west doesn't know much about it.

No oil is used in the preparation. When it's done a very small amount of ghee is heated and cumin seeds and red chilli powder are added for a bit of colour and fat flavour. The dish itself is pretty lean and protein heavy.

Try again.

In all seriousness, Hamburg Steak was a German dish, which was basically what we would now call a Hamburger Patty.

However, The concept of putting the steak into a sandwich seems to have taken off in American, though who came up with this is widely disputed, as well as why exactly the sandwich is called a Hamburger. (Some inventors claim it was for their region's german population, another claims it was due to its popularity among German sailors, and so on.)

As an American, I have to nod to >>5957207.

We are, in many ways, 50 different countries that happen to be under one federated government. A great example is the animosity various regions have against the others. The Northeast and northwest tend to judge the Midwest and South, in the same way that France likes to look down on Belgium, Spain, and Germany.

As for my specific area: Seafood is the regional specialty of my home state. Salmon on Cedar planks, Dungeness Crab, and clams are all big in the area. Beyond that, we have berries on the west side, and apples on the right. Oh, and coffee, thanks to Starbucks.

That's all true, and nuanced, but let's face it, when us foreigners think of american cuisine, we picture giant cheeseburgers, hotdogs, heart-exploding dressed fries, apple pie, all that shit. Own it, embrace it, be proud of it!

Also very true.

The Hamburger Sandwich is pretty definitively American, as are hot dogs. Apple pie we totally stole as our symbol.

The Chili-Cheese-Fries are also super American.
Hell, Chili as a whole (meaning the stew of spices, beans, and potentially meat) is pretty much just us and Mexico.

>>5960266
While that is recognizable as "bacon' to us, we use the belly bacon (Also know as streaky bacon, and, for a foreign purist: thinly sliced and cured pork belly) meaning it has a higher fat-to-meat ratio, and is generally darker in hue, from the curing.

Here's what cooked bacon is expected to look like in America.

This is gonna get real ugly, real fast.

My stance is solely that the fact that there is chili, and chili con carne (chilli with meat), establishes that meat is a non-essential ingredient for Chili.

Now, Texas chili is noted for being solely meat, vegetables and spices, without beans.

Compounding the issue is that, after a while, "chili sin carne" became the term to distinguish chili without meat, but Chili Con Carne still remains as a signifier.

These difficulties arise because the original recipes for chili were ad hoc, using powdered chilis, dried meats, and beans, all easily preserved trail foods. As such, whether a chili had meat or beans was originally a matter of extant supplies, not dish accuracy. This would later grow into regional variations, much like how Barbecue is different in many regions.

In my PERSONAL opinion, "True" chili has both meat AND beans, but I yield that lacking either of them still produces chili. Lacking both is just fucking broth.

Moussaka is considered to be Greece's national dish, but i don't enjoy it very much, it also takes sooo long to make its usually reserved for special occasions.
when it comes to everyday traditionional cooking, oil based stews are the most common thing, and vary quite a bit. My favorite is artichokes with fava beans scented with dill.
