Hey /ck/ I think I am becoming an long haul trucker.
The thing I am most afraid of is getting fat. I am already at the age where I need to diet and excersize a ton to stay thin.
What can I eat that's healthy from truck stops?

Semen, it's high in protein and low in calories.

Avoid the huge, 60oz, sodas and the shitty pizza/hotdogs/fried chicken/burgers. Maybe you can run laps around your rig when you have to take a break from driving.

Hey, my dad recently started trucking and actually lost a ton of weight (like hundreds of pounds, he looks at least 20 years younger now)
He has a two burner camp cooker and buys fresh ingredients from grocery stores instead of relying on fast food. He also has a bike that he rides all over during his down time.

Take it easy on bread and potatoes with meals (carbs)
Don't snack while driving- terrible habit a lot of long haulers get into is throwing a bag of chips or candy on the dash and munch away
Stay away from energy drinks- if you are consuming more than one energy drink every three days, you are looking at putting on pounds and staring hyper tension in the face (most truckers end up on hyper tension meds because of caffeine and weight gain combined with stress)
If you can swing it, get a folding bike you can throw in the bunk and ride it around a little- I've seen plenty of truckers around LA and around Cali that do this
Drink water, stay away from pop
Keep your CB turned off unless you are using it to get info during storms and construction areas. CB radio has more trolls than the internet does (been around a lot longer) and they just wanna get your blood pressure up because their 4th wife left em (not even exaggerating, divorce is higher for truckers than for full time military)

The guy who fell asleep and crashed into Tracy Morgan worked for WalMart and before you say; "hurr durr, WalMart sucks!"
he was pulling down a nice wage working for them and that's how they got him to drive 12 hours to the warehouse _before_
driving X hours to wherever the delivery was to be made; he either agreed to their demands or deliveries would suddenly
start being assigned to other drivers and he would go broke.

Unless you're in the union, you're a pleb like the rest of us and subject to the whims of management, legal or not.

>> No.5908394

My dad used to be a truck driver.
He was a millwright, had his back badly injured in a car accident so he started driving so it'd be easier on his back though honestly I think it made it worse between keeping his back in one place for hours at a time and doing EVERY fucking repair/maintenance on the truck himself. Anyway, I used to go with him quite a bit when I was younger. You have can have alot of down time when you deliver and are waiting for your return load, you could be waiting a entire day sometimes so you'd have time to jog/bike around for sure.

OP, check out this website: http://www.truckingtruth.com
They helped me get started in OTR trucking.

As for your food issues, get a plug-in cooler and hit the grocery store. You'll have enough room for a microwave and a hot plate, so you can still cook basic meals. Just don't binge on the truck stop food and do some basic exercise (jumping jacks, push ups, running, maybe ask >>>/fit/ for more) and you'll be fine.

Believe what you like but WalMart is one of the best companies for truckers; they get good pay and plenty of work but like all trucking companies nowadays, nobody is really keeping an eye on them to prevent crooked practices like making drivers drive over the legal time limit.

Your best bet is to go to a truck stop and talk to some of them. They usually don't mind and will have valuable insight if you choose their specific company.

Although these days it is probably meth. There are three types of truckie, the fat, the drugged, and the local delivery.

Last time I was in the states I met a guy and happened to mention I've got an MC licence, which is any length but not over weight. Turns out his job was to recruit new drivers and he absolutely hated it. He said he knew he was ruining lives but that he would do anything to keep himself out of the seat. He said you will get divorced, no ifs no buts it is happening. If you have kids you will see them even less after you're divorced, so basically never. You will get fat, you will probably smoke. Your life will turn to shit and all for a half decent paycheque. Sounds like a poor move to me.
