ITT: We discuss beers with no discernable hype, no gimmick or seasonal appeal. Hops need no introduction, nor those who wish to proclaim their contrarian distaste for "bitter, manchild hopbombs".

In short, what is your favorite beer that you can drink all day erry day and not give two fucks about what people think of you for it. If that's Natty Light, so be it. If Steel Reserve is your go to, let it be known. If you can stomach a Barrel Aged Old Rasputin for 12 hours, feel free to post pics and timestamp?

What do you really drink when nobody's looking, /ck/?

Japanese macro brews are pretty similar to american big lagers in that they're usually very light in flavor, perhaps some effect of using rice and other stuff instead of only barley. I'd say compared to american big lagers the japanese counterparts are somewhat more dry and bitter, and they work quite nice in a hot day. Can't tell anything about their microbrews though since I haven't tried any and I don't know any shipped to where I live.

Shiner Premium was the original flagship before they switched to Bock in the 1980s. It's alright, but it's the reason why most older people don't really like Shiner because they grew up with Shiner Premium.

It ain't bad, but to me it ain't worth buying.

I know this isn't what this thread is about but Mikheller is the worst beer I've tasted in my life. Anything by those idiots.

With that out of the way, Bischoff is very nice. A fancypants pub with 50-ish beers on tap has it here (for an exorbitant price, but oh well) and I've no clue about any other place that has it. Very cosy, basic and bitter. Probably nothing like American doppels though I've never had one.

I'm from Missouri, so Stag was basically our bottom-of-the-barrel, drinking on a Tuesday beer.

At the gas station round the corner from our house, it was routinely on sale for the state minimum, which was something like $15 for a 30-pack. Good times, bad hangovers.

Coincidentally, Stag is brewed in Milwaukee, but is only sold in Ozark territory. I had friends up in Milwaukee with apartments in full view of the brewery, but they couldn't buy the beer. I always took some with me whenever I visited, and they'd get excited, even though it's nothing special. Except for the memories.

Sam Adams is great when they aren't trying too hard. Boston Lager, Rebel IPA, and Oktoberfest are all simple, great beers considering you can find them anywhere and none are too expensive. The bad by my house has Rebel tallboy cans for $3 and the other two on draft for about $4 right now, and I can get them at any supermarket nearby. Sometimes when they try to do something a little different it'll work out pretty well (Fat Jack, Barrel Room Collection), but most of the time it feels like they're trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator (Cherry Wheat, Pumpkin Ale), or else it just feels like Sam Adams trying to "prove" themselves by making an exciting, important craft beer (Grumpy Monk, Harvest Saison).

When I went to vegas from WI, this was the only beer I could drink that was decent for a non-exorbitant fee. That nice dive bar next to Wild Bill's off the strip really hit the spot after not finding a decent cheap beer for days.
