I never understood why lower class people are so obsessed with steak houses. Anyone can go out and pick up a couple of dry aged USDA prime steaks for under $75 and cook them at home. Add a bottle of bombastic Napa cab from the corner liquor store, play some middlebrow jazz on the stereo system, and there's your steak house experience. Wow, that was hard.

I'll eat at steak houses rarely when I'm in a weird mood, but to me a "top shelf" place gives me an experience I would have a hard time creating at home.

I go for comfortable rather than fancy when I want to celebrate. Usually a no-name place specializing in emilia-romagna food because I know the staff and I know I'll leave the place happy (and drunk). It's great food but it's relaxed.

Fancy is more for sensation seeking. If it's tryhard and architectural, I have to be in the mood.

It is the best way to get the best meat you can. Then cook it at home exactly how you like to cook it. Don't go to steak houses or restaurants for shit tier steak ever again.
