A 'session beer' is an affected American adaptation of a normal British-English term for a lower-alcohol beer that you can consume over a longer period of time when you're out with your friends.

For all intents and purposes, it means 'less strongly flavored beer'. It is basically an admission that even beer snobs don't really like triple Russian Imperial 14-minute ebony rye OPA and only drink it because all of their beer-snob friends have told each other that's like the best beer ever because no one wants to admit to being "unsophisticated" in believing the stuff tastes like oven cleaner mixed with Chanel No.5

If I want a super-weak beer, I usually go for an Asahi Super Dry, or Sapporo. Slightly more character than budweiser or miller, but too expensive.

My standard drink has been and will probably be Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Good character, easy to drink 4 in an hour if I wanna get plastered, and gets buzzed without getting drunk if I drink at my normal pace of a beer every 30-40 minutes.

It's so good that when I run across some abomination of burnt rubber and recycled toilet seat hops, I can mix it with SNPA and make it taste decent enough to enjoy.

Like brother thelonious.
That was DISGUSTING.
It almost made me vomit.

Mix it with 2 SNPAs and it's not bad at all.

And I have.

What I'm saying is, if you want a full-flavored pale lager, you're going to be hard-pressed to beat Coors Banquet with anything, anywhere. Believe me, I've tried, and I've seen Anons on /ck/ try too. I failed, and they all failed.

You just have to give up and accept it. I know, it's hard. It's a domestic can. It looks like something Bubba and Hoss would take fishing.. and they probably do. Doesn't matter. Bottom line: It's the best Pale Lager in the world.

Was talking to a friend about this the other night. Both of us are college seniors and never bought anything but bud and coors until about 2 years ago.

Anyway, we both agree: bud and similar beers are a waste of fuckin money. They taste like shit, have lower alcohol content, and aren't any less expensive when you take into account the higher alcohol content of some craft beers.

I'll never drink a budweiser or coors or anything like that even again, unless it's free.

Has nothing to do with being a snob. I just like to taste what beers supposed to taste like when I drink beer. The mega brews are just what makes economic sense for the brewery.

>hipster

“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.

Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own).

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.

I was talking about the way to drink beer.

also, your traditional saying seems the wrong way round to me, since most people drink hard liquor after beer, but that's by the by.

I just got some Allagash Curieux bourbon ale from the store, going to have it tomorrow. Anyone ever try it? I've heard good things about it.

It's a craft as Sam Adams. Though their beer tends to be okay, and it's cheaper than say st. arnolds.

This has become my session beer of choice recently. Good balance of lightness versus taste. Also the beer that stopped my slightly snobby prejudice toward lagers.

This is mine, Norwegian beer. It's still a shitty lager but at least it's better than Bud. I don't buy it very often though, I usually just buy four IPAs or porters or something like that instead.

I wouldn't say it's snobby because lagers are among the worst types of beer, that doesn't mean they can't be good though.

You poor delicate flower, you. Best stick to filtered water, what with your delicate constitution there.
