5787197 No.5787197 [Reply] [Original]

I tried In-N-Out for the first time 2 days ago. I was really excited about it and was really disappointed!

I got a double cheeseburger with fried onions and fries, both "animal style". The Burger was okay, really nothing special at all. Not bad by any stretch but nothing to write home about.

The fries were actually bad. If I bought a bag of frozen fries and they ended up tasting like In-N-Out fries I would be disappointed and never buy that brand again. Just really small, bland fries. The processed cheese and other stuff made them more palatable, but not by much.

I talked to someone working there after and they told me that "yeah that food isn't that great, it's more of a nostalgic thing". The place was packed, so it must be a combination of nostalgia and word of mouth, I'm not sure.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Oh yeah, that hot pepper were good.

first the fries, I agree that they are limp, bland bla bla bla. If you are going to fry fries from fresh potatoes you need to fry them twice to crisp them.
But the burgers, they are great because of thier freshness, I liken it to a Mexican coke. Try it and you think no big deal. But get used to it then go back to the more processed burgers, that is when you realize the difference, and it is stark.

I don't live near school. That's 3 hours on the highway from where I live now. At school, though, the Amish were everywhere. Some, believe it or fucking not, worked at the dining hall. They're just regular folk, really, with an antiquated belief system.

The Mennonites are a bit... weird. It's odd that I find them stranger than the Amish. I mean: I get it. You're Amish. You shun fancy things like electricity and keeping your teeth past the age of 13. That's why you dress like that. But Mennonites? What's keeping them from just... you know... dressing in a more modern manner?
I was raised with a peace church background myself and most adopt plain dress but not the way the Amish, Mennonites or Hutterites do. We just wear t-shirts and jeans year round and stuff like that. No jewelry or fancy shit. No labels. Unless you know exactly what to look out for, you wouldn't know most of us from anyone else. Mennonites, though... they specifically separate themselves from others almost entirely just from the way they dress. It's bizarre to me.

Where I live now, though, there is a coalition of Mennonites and Amish. Mennonite retailers buy Amish goods (or transport Amish and their goods with them) to sell in the city. The nearest Amish or Mennonite settlements are about an hour and a half away by car. Maybe even two hours.

Still, Amish wimminz can cook like whoa.

I'm fine with people liking something i don't like, but it seems like most of the arguments i see in favor of in and out over five guys is that five guys costs more. but from what I've seen when i get a burger and fries from five guys is that for the money im getting about the same amount of food or even more. in and out just seems like a improvement over the normal fast food places like burger king and mcdonalds. but five guys is more like a super entry level specialty burger place. its like they don't even serve the same purpose but people just keep spewing shit and trying to defend their poorly placed fanboyism.

I like neither 5G nor InO. However, I don't find the sandwiches to be much bigger at 5G. A Double Double uses two 2oz patties. That's a quarter pound. Last time I went to InO, I paid $2.90 for it. This was 10 years ago, mind you. Looking it up, the price has since gone up 50¢ to $3.40.
5G, though: a standard burger (not a little burger) uses a 3.2oz patty (1lb makes five patties). Due to their unusual sizing, the only way to accurately portray the cost is by the pound.
An assembled cheeseburger from 5G costs $6.79. Five of those, 1 pound of precooked beef, will cost $33.95.
An assembled Double Double from InO costs $3.40. Four of those, 1 pound of precooked beef, will cost $17.

I find the two sandwiches each to be comparably mediocre. 5G might be a quarter point beyond InO but that quarter point of superiority doesn't validate a pricetag double that of the Double Double.
Nonetheless, you're really arguing which is the best of the mediocre burgers.
If price is no object and you don't mind paying for something well beyond the point of diminishing returns, 5G is absolutely the better of the two.
So there you have it.

I've gone a few times since and just get a little cheeseburger, which is much less likely to fall apart (but still does about 40% of the time).

In fairness, we'll recalculate.
3.2 × 2 = 6.4 oz
2.0 × 2 = 4.0 oz

6.4 oz and 4.0 oz each divide into 2lbs (32oz) cleanly.
32 / 4.0 = 8
32 / 6.4 = 5

8 × 3.40 = $27.20
5 × 6.79 = $33.95

Still cheaper at InO. Is a quarter point of superiority really worth an increase in cost of 25%? You an get ten Double Doubles for the price of five 5G burgers.

I greatly prefer Five Guys over In and Out. Over that though, I go to Meatheads for chain burgers. This La Briola place a town or two over has the best burgers in the area, aside from places downtown.

I think 5 guys is okay but too much food and too pricey for what it is.

There's no good local burger joint in my town though that isn't $12 a burger

Is it cheaper than $5.50? Because that's a dbl dbl w/fries.

>> No.5802344

>>5802322
might be, not sure. realy you shouldnt care about a dollar difference unless you eat there all the fucking time, and i really hope you don't do that. its unhealthy when you go out to often. the little fries is 3 bucks where i live but if money is the main concern get a mcdouble off the dollar menu.

I don't want to overpay for this quality of food.

If the food is good, then i will pay more.
