Someday after working for a company long enough, a year or so, there's no problem in negotiating a raise. I've done it more times than I can remember, I've never been turned down, I'm not unreasable about it, that's why it's called a negotiation. Heck get this, truth, when I was working for Pfizer as a consultant, they demanded that my consulting company give me a raise. That's was really cool of them.

No, it's up to an agreement between employees and employer, that what negotiations are for. The tip system is pretty lame though, I'd way prefer that even if there's more of a cost for individual dishes at a restaurant then the cost of the employees be figured in and I don't have to deal with tips. The folk working there should be paid properly and as a patron I shouldn't have to deal with it other than just paying the bill. Tipping is a serious boring pain in the ass.

That's just restaurants, you should see jerks with their hands out at buildings in Manhattan around Christmas time, it's fucking pathetic, even more pathetic since they're in unions and make plenty.
