fried chicken places generally separate the different pieces of meat into separate spaces. then they grab the specified number from each section and throw it in the bucket. that way they're not wasting their employer's precious profit margins by giving extra white meat for free.

You need to read the menu. Usually, it'll say '10 pieces' or '10 pcs' or something like that rather than '10 wings.' Occasionally, it'll say '10 wings' but they'll mean '10 pieces.'
Just go to the Chinky. Chinkies sell whole wings only. I've never seen one sell pieces. Or a fried chicken shop altogether. My nearest Chinky sells three whole wings for $4 but they only sell them plain fried, not buffalo or barbecue etc. The next nearest sells them whole or barbecue but they're $5 for an order of three whole wings. I find them a bit unwieldy to eat, to be honest, whole Q/buffalo wings. As pieces, they're less of a mess to consume.

Man it feels good to be the only person in my family to like dark meat. Every thanksgiving I get as many drumsticks as I want while everybody else has to fight over the breast meat.
