Why the fuck can't everyone adapt metric grams and liters. Jesus fucking Christ, there's metric cup, then there's US customary cup, imperial cup, US LEGAL CUP, CUP OF BANANAS.
Stupid shit.

The same way we Americans use metric recipes: just do a simple conversion.

One US cup is approximately 250 mL
One teaspoon is 5 mL
Tablespoon is 15 mL.
One pound is 454 grams
One ounce (weight) is roughly 30 grams.

Also note that you really ought not to be sticking to exact measurements. Taste the ingredients and adjust accordingly.

It still bothers me when recipes say something like "1 cup high fructose corn syrup" instead of one cup of high fructose corn syrup. It's the same with halves, they say "a half a cup lard" instead of half of a cup of lard.

Americans just don't like the metric system. Congress tried to impose it on us in the 70s and the public refused to switch over. Businesses refused it as well because it was deemed to costly to convert all engineering/architecture plans to metric.

In regards to cooking, although logical, metric is a bigger pain in the ass. No one likes to weigh every little thing on a scale. Using this "cups" system although retarded is a lot more convenient.

>> No.5629971

I use a scale myself but solely because I'm dieting and that's pretty much the only accurate way to calorie count. Anyway, it's a pain in the ass. Also you're suggestion of taring everything into one bowl only works if you're mixing something. For a real world recipe where you're going to be measuring a bunch of different serving bowls with all the components of the recipe. This undoubtedly adds more time than the cups shit.

This needs to be reemphasized. Measurements are a guideline in cooking. Not a law. Unless you are baking
