With family I'm OK with chopsticks taking from the serving plate. With friends or associates I do that thing where you flip the chopsticks around to use the other end to serve myself, if there's no serving spoon.

Chopsticks typically have a tapered design. Some chopsticks do not, but that's usually because they're meant to be used as part of a bento box or something you're not necessarily supposed to share. When dining at the table, you use the fat ends of the chopsticks to serve yourself from the plate, and then use the narrow ends to bring the food to your mouth. I live in a country where we don't use chopsticks at all, but I get pissed off when someone uses his fork/spoon if there's already a serving spoon(and I always make sure there is). I never do that, not even when I'm with family and I lose my appetite when other people do that. Call me a fag, but I just like my food clean.
