Alright coo/ck/s I want to hear it from you straight. I'm moving to a high desert climate in Arizona for college. I'm going to start growing trees on my down time to keep me sane while I do a double major. Will any of the fruit trees I want to grow do well in Arizona if I supplement their growth? I.E. proper watering, soil, lighting, etc...
>Fruit trees
Star apple, wood apple, cherimoya, salak, black sapote, durian, and dragon fruit.
>Peppers
Carolina Reaper, Bhut Jolokia, serrano, and jalapeno.
>What are your favorite fruits and peppers coo/ck/s?

Are you going to be living there permanently? If not, forget about trees.

Probably 6 yrs or so. I'm looking to get my masters in one of my two degrees, then head on out.

Also I don't know why it's hipster to like good tasting food. The caroline reaper and bhut jolokia are more for novelty than anything else, but other than that, I love the rest of everything I listed.

What, you think you're fucking better than me because you eat fruit I haven't heard of before? You think I'm a piece of shit or something eating my normal apples?

All peppers will do great in arizona with proper watering, dragon fruit will also do great, it's not really a tree, more of a succulent

U of A fag?
Citrus trees are grown everywhere around Tucson. Peppers should be fine, don't know about most of those fruits though. Check and see how well they can handle extremes in temperature. It can freeze overnight in the winter and I don't think I have to say anything about summer.

Why the fuck would you bother growing fruit and vege permanently and cheaply available in supermarkets?
Don't be mad, you could own some growing space one day too. If you finally applied yourself.

Why not? May increase property value a bit.

OP, take your pretentious cunt over to >>>/out/ and find the Homegrowmen thread. We cook, not grow.

Check this fruit out, the black sapote, also known as the "chocolate pudding fruit", it's a persimmon that, when ripe, can be scraped easier than an avocado, and looks and tastes like melted chocolate.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University actually, I'll be double majoring in Plasma physics and Astronautical engineering. My social life will be next to none, and I need an outlet to pour my remaining downtime into, why not delicious plants?

You will never grow dragon fruit outside of humid sub-tropical climates.

As a vietnamese guy I find it odd you enjoyed dragonfruit. It is not sweet or bitter but rather bland, especially with the white flesh ones. It's like a bit too frozen water-flavored sorbet.

So what are your favorite fruits to cook, and how do you use them coo/ck/s? I use the black sapote in homemade pudding with honey and granulated ginger.

6 years isn't long enough to make fruit trees worthwhile, and they need well over 100 gallons of water per pound of fruit added to them in that region once they've reached adolescence.

Peppers and melons/squash (you can interbreed some of them, so plant them cautiously, or you'll end up with mostly useless pumpkin type things) are probably your best bets. Onions can do well if you can wait two seasons for harvest. Some of the vine variety kiwi have a shot (there are more than 20 varieties and some of them only resemble kiwi in the most vague sense) though they typically take over a year to fruit from seed. If you have shaded growing areas you can attempt some herbs, especially those from the mint family.

It's not like I plan on just leaving the plants. I'll probably take them with me. I'm just wondering if it's possible to start them now in that climate on a fruit tree by fruit tree basis from the list I want.
