Why'd you move? I can't speak from experience but I've heard food in the south is more about adding lots of spices than actual ingredients. I've seen some changes though, ever since Chinese food places have started to spread, there's been a decline in the overall quality and culture of the food in general. You see taco stands and regional restaurants being replaced by shit tier sushi places and "American" restaurants (they only sell overpriced wings and burgers, you basically pay to be seen in the place rather than the food, it's not that good)

I only lived in the south for a few years, but now that I moved back north I miss good BBQ ( can be found up here, but it's no diamond dozen) and what I really miss is the produce. Both the quality of local fruit and veg, but also the length of season . Had a local pepper nerd that sold his stuff for like 2 bucks a lb. I don't remember the exact cost but I could load a grocery bag to the brim, pay with a 10, and get change. All sorts of fun hybrids and rare ( at least in stores) pepper varieties. Like, at least 20 different peppers available at any time. Always changing. He was my god

I was born in Poland, moved to Canada at 9 years of age. I'm really glad I moved because Polish food is one of the worst cuisines imo. I'm much more glad that I get to enjoy sushi or chinese food often than the food I'd be eating if I still lived there.

I don't miss much because it's very easy to cook Polish food at home, because it's so simple. I do however miss the bread in Poland which is just absolutely amazing for example. No matter how good the bakery here in Canada, the bread will never be as good. I think it's the flour they use here. And speaking of baked goods, the pastries, cakes and desserts/sweets in Poland are something else. I hate the desserts here in Canada or the US, they are pretty much all awful compared to the old world.

I miss my grandmothers perogies. She passed away in April and I'll never eat perogies as good as the ones she made ever again in my life.

I'm another displaced Texan in California, and I've had to get really good with my smoker out here, because there's NO place with real Texas style bbq. Dickie's Bbq isn't awful if you really need a fix, but it's not great.
You know what I hate? The fact that if I want a whole brisket, I have to fucking order it ahead of time, because they don't keep them stocked. I've lived here for 5 years and that still blows my mind. If I want to smoke some meat, and I forget to order a brisket in time, I have to use a whole tri tip instead, which tastes good, but it's not brisket.

I grew up in BC in the fruit growing region but live in Quebec. Food is good here, but I miss fresh peaches, apricots and cherries, which don't grow here due to harsh winters. The ones from Niagara in Ontario just aren't the same.

I've personally eaten at this restaurant and these guys make it perfectly, they don't reveal everything, but maybe you can identify the ingredients by how they look.

Of course, you could always google some recipes. The plantains go good with pretty much every meat. I've seen them relleno with chicken, shrimp, crab, red snapper, tilapia, etc.
It's an awesome dish, I visit PR twice a year for family and the food.

I agree about the sunday roast though- we try and make good yorkshire puds but they just never seem to work properly.
