Imo's to a lesser extent. Wasn't my favorite when I lived in STL but I crave it after 6 years without.

Although the $ sign originally referred to a Spanish coin, it was
the revolting American colonists who made the transition
from ps to the new sign. (This is apparently also why we write $1
instead of 1$; it mimics the British use of the pound sign.) So,
while it did not originally refer to the U.S. dollar, the symbol
does legitimately claim its origins in that country.

Used to live in Hobart, Tasmania. The food scene down there was pretty great, very multicultural, best seafood, lamb and even the fruit and veggies were better. It's freezing cold down there for 12 months of the year so comfort food and alcohol were always going which suits me fine.

Move to the Gold Coast, everything's expensive, everything's shit. People here don't know what good food is so they don't know they're missing out.

Why'd you move? I can't speak from experience but I've heard food in the south is more about adding lots of spices than actual ingredients. I've seen some changes though, ever since Chinese food places have started to spread, there's been a decline in the overall quality and culture of the food in general. You see taco stands and regional restaurants being replaced by shit tier sushi places and "American" restaurants (they only sell overpriced wings and burgers, you basically pay to be seen in the place rather than the food, it's not that good)

>> No.5556532

I only lived in the south for a few years, but now that I moved back north I miss good BBQ ( can be found up here, but it's no diamond dozen) and what I really miss is the produce. Both the quality of local fruit and veg, but also the length of season . Had a local pepper nerd that sold his stuff for like 2 bucks a lb. I don't remember the exact cost but I could load a grocery bag to the brim, pay with a 10, and get change. All sorts of fun hybrids and rare ( at least in stores) pepper varieties. Like, at least 20 different peppers available at any time. Always changing. He was my god

I was born in Poland, moved to Canada at 9 years of age. I'm really glad I moved because Polish food is one of the worst cuisines imo. I'm much more glad that I get to enjoy sushi or chinese food often than the food I'd be eating if I still lived there.

I don't miss much because it's very easy to cook Polish food at home, because it's so simple. I do however miss the bread in Poland which is just absolutely amazing for example. No matter how good the bakery here in Canada, the bread will never be as good. I think it's the flour they use here. And speaking of baked goods, the pastries, cakes and desserts/sweets in Poland are something else. I hate the desserts here in Canada or the US, they are pretty much all awful compared to the old world.

The amount of crime that occurs on college campuses is atrocious. Basically, look forward to getting attacked on a regular basis, and then getting shit on my law enforcement if you defend yourself in any way. Instead of small talk you'll get sullen stares and outbursts of violence, or get completely ignored.

Yeah, my house. (lol)
I'm another displaced Texan in California, and I've had to get really good with my smoker out here, because there's NO place with real Texas style bbq. Dickie's Bbq isn't awful if you really need a fix, but it's not great.
You know what I hate? The fact that if I want a whole brisket, I have to fucking order it ahead of time, because they don't keep them stocked. I've lived here for 5 years and that still blows my mind. If I want to smoke some meat, and I forget to order a brisket in time, I have to use a whole tri tip instead, which tastes good, but it's not brisket.

I grew up in BC in the fruit growing region but live in Quebec. Food is good here, but I miss fresh peaches, apricots and cherries, which don't grow here due to harsh winters. The ones from Niagara in Ontario just aren't the same.

There are a couple of beers I miss too.

Mofongo Relleno de Churrasco (flank steak)
I've personally eaten at this restaurant and these guys make it perfectly, they don't reveal everything, but maybe you can identify the ingredients by how they look.

Of course, you could always google some recipes. The plantains go good with pretty much every meat. I've seen them relleno with chicken, shrimp, crab, red snapper, tilapia, etc.
It's an awesome dish, I visit PR twice a year for family and the food.

You're going to need a pilon, or bowl masher thingy.

>great seafood in england
What the actual fuck
I moved from the U.K as well and I can honestly say the seafood here blows anything from the U.K out of the water.
I agree about the sunday roast though- we try and make good yorkshire puds but they just never seem to work properly.
Also, they sell prawn cocktail crisps at fountain gate. Expensive as fuck, but better than nothing.

Mostly, I miss good sausages and black pudding. The sausages here never seem to be as good for some reason and the black pudding is shit tier.

>Filipino spaghetti
sweet, cheesy, meaty, and sometimes gooey (my favorite kind) spaghetti, mixed with hotdog slices. Easy to make at home, but its also nice when i find a place that serves some, like Jollibee for example.
>The Aristocrat's BBQ chicken and java rice
A small chain restaurant that grills chicken til the skin is barely crisp black, served with orange-colored rice mixed with minced meat (i think) and their signature Java sauce. The sauce being a dark brown sweet sauce (but unlike teriyaki) that goes great with this and other grilled meats. They even sell bottles worth at the restaurant or a local store.
>Magoo's pizza
Square-baked pizza topped with an abundant amount of cheese, an incomparable sauce and toppings of your choice. I can't find a taste like this anywhere in the US that ive barely forgotten what it tastes like
>Don Henrico's "buffalo" wings
Thick, tender, KFC-sized chicken coated generously in a sweet and bold brown sauce and
served with a side of ranch sprinkled with a green garnish. They use the term "buffalo" loosely, as it's not spicy/tangy, but i like to believe that the food itself is a better tribute to the actual animal

what I've seen is expensive dirty vietnamese fishmongers, a fish eating culture that begins (and ends) with prawns and calamari, and an article in the The Age that says 99% of the good stuff is sent to asia. It might just be the crowd I'm in, but from what I've seen Australia is in love with meat (beef and chicken in particular), and I've never seen anyone order fish at a restaurant here or serve at a dinner party. .

Born in china, grew up in sydney, now living in shanghai. Cannot find cheap vegemite here, a small jar costs me a few hundred yuan. And good proper fish and chips is always missing from my life. Mind you, its impossible to find traditional peking duck in Australia so there's that.

As for hobart. Boy do I have good memories of hobart. Salamanca markets, and that pub near the waterfront, just near the MONA ferry and the hotel. Fuck did that pub make good schnitty.
Its impossible to find good schnitzel in china, so I just settle for this mediocre sports bar near me.

I like spicy food as much as most people and eat it fairly regularly but that's not to say there's not foods to be enjoyed that have milder and more subtle flavours. Not everything you eat has to be in your face you know?
