I know we laugh at the British and their cuisine all the time, but you have to admit, they have some awesome flavored chips (yeah, yeah, 'crisps', whatever)

Hell just go to taquitos.net and look at some of the Walkers and Brannigan's flavors. Turkey and sage; ham and pickle; beef and mustard; lamb curry. Lamb curry!

Apparently this delicious variety of flavors extends to their instant noodles too. I am intrigued.

Plenty of murricans do it too. I'm not one of them though. It fascinates me, because a lot of it is the same ingredients and flavors that we use here, but they do totally different things with them.

I'd love to try some of the traditional stuff, like Cumberland sausage, Lancashire hotpot, bangers and mash, or a Cornish pasty. Even just a ploughman's lunch at a pub with some nice ale.

No, those are Australians pretending to be Americans or Canadians. This whole topic was discussed last night in depth and the truth was found. Most Americans and Canadians are open minded and friendly, not like those bogun cunts.

Yeah well I missed that thread so here's another one!

I've tried to make some of the basic stuff but it's funny how hard it is to get certain basic British foodstuffs without ordering online. Like if you do a bacon sandwich, you can't just use what we think of as bacon here, it has to be backbacon, which isn't as common in stores. And HP Sauce you have to get from an international foods store unless yours has a good section for that (mine just had an off-brand of brown sauce).

Or even freaking beans on toast - you can get the proper Heinz beans (at like over $2 a can!) and bread and butter.. but if you want 'mature cheddar' then that's totally different from the orange blocks you get in the dairy section of Walmart or wherever. And even the gourmet cheese section may not have it.

And don't even think about trying to get real British sausages here.

Do people other than ghetto trash actually do this?
I've lived in the US for most of my life and have never even considered buying my groceries at Walmart. I think I've gotten an energy drink there once while picking up batteries.

thats the thing in /k/anaduh is EVERY brand of chips has their own flavor of ketchup
like what you said sounds like you had LAYS ketchup chips
and old dutchs ketchup chips taste more like actual ketchup
and so on and so forth
so buying "ketchup" chips from any brand is always different

We have shephard's pie here too, although really it's not a pie, there's no pastry.

You don't have things like steak and kidney pies or chicken and mushroom pies though do you?

I have this strange theory that Americans naturally associate pies with desserts, while the British tend to have a relatively broader view on what can go into a pie.

We don't just have shephard's pie, shephard's pie and cottage pie and specifically British cuisine that was invented here.

And though technically a pie, I don't really see it as one either. It's just too different from what is generally seen as pies (a pastry dish).

Ours are different than yours, in the ingredients obviously, but also in design. An American pot pit can't be picked up and eaten like a pastry. They are essentially a stew of sorts with a flaky crust over the top of the pot containing the foodstuffs.

To the bloke who wanted to know how to Lancashire hotpot
From what I gather it's fairly simple:
>fry onions, (and optionally carrots and celery) until golden
>remove from pan, and fry lamb, in 1inch cubes until browned on all sides
>make a roux
>place roux, lamb and vegetables into a baking dish
>add red wine, ale, cider or apple juice
>peel about 1kg of potatoes. Slice into pieces about as thick as an HB pencil
>arrange on top of the meat and veg
>bake at 200C for an hour or so, until potatoes are crusty on top and soggy below
>Enjoy with white, crusty bread, ale and a bitter salad (beet tops, frisee and kale is good)
