Ok, anyone here do much canning/candying of fruits?

I caretake for some older peopl, and one of them candied figs like last summer. She kept the syrup in a closed (not sealed, just witht he lid twisted shut) jar i her fridge.

Would it still be good? It's basically just sugar and whatever cooked out of the figs into it when she candied them
