You know, what is with the new generations' obsession with nuts? I mean, back in my day, if you didn't go out and pick up the pee-cans and waaal-nuts yourself, you didn't GET any nuts! Nowadays, you go to the store, and there's macadamia nuts (whoever heard of those?), brazil nuts (what kind nut gets named after an entire country?), and things like pistachios, and almonds, which in my day, were only for the privileged! Why do people need so many nuts? Are we turning into a country of nutcenntrics? A place where priority and value is handed out on a nut to nut basis? And what of us lowly peanut lovers? What happens to us? Are we just relics of a time gone by? When street vendors handed out paper cones of fresh roasted peanuts that honestly gave people a bit of happiness in their daily routine? Why should we let that pass by? Doesn't every red blooded American want peanut happiness? And don't even get me started on the SEEDS. When I was a kid, seeds were the things you SCRAPED OUT to get to the good part of the fruits and gourds, not something you cleaned off and rinsed and spend hours roasting under special care in the oven, sprinkled with a salt from some random country in Asia! Well, I say harrumph to that. I say let us eat the nut that was good enough to pull the southern US out of an economic slump, the nut that George Washington Carver turned from a lowly peasant snack into a treat that millions of God fearing Americans spread on their sandwiches daily. And as for me, I'll go out into the woods and pick my own nuts, thanks very much.
