What's your favorite hot sauce? No hipsters allowed.

I love me some Crystal, and Texas Pete. Valentina is good but I'm kinda tired of it.

I know you were probably directing the hipster comment at people who like Sriracha but I like it and I am not a hipster so fuck off. I also like sweet thai chili sauce.

Isn't rejecting a sauce simply because it is popular in order to be a special snowflake something that a hipster would do?

/ck/ got me to try Crystal, and honestly I think it is one of the better tasting hot sauces, but it does lack heat. Right now my favorite is a chile pequin hot sauce that some ranch in central Texas sells.

I absolutely LOVE cholula.

When I went to visit the USA, cholula was on the table of a bbq ribs restaurant. I fell in love with the flavor.

It is not spicy enough, thats my only complaint. The flavors are wonderful. I like the original and lime ones.

Anyone got recommendations for a hot sauce with nice flavors, maybe a bit spicier than cholula?

Too spicy is not fun though. People who like overly painfully spicy food (think over 300,000 scoville) are tryhards who try to feel badass or special. Its used for party gags or personal challenges, but not for enjoying the food and the flavor.

>> No.5495220

RedHot for chicken, Tobasco for a drop or two, Cholula for Mexican food, Louisiana or Crystal for everything else.

And their other flavors, I really like the green and the 'mayan xxx' one, which is delicious (that one's pretty spicy though). They have much more flavor/depth than Cholula and are a bit spicier. Ignore the guy saying it's 'hipster' I see it all over the place. It's in god-damn walmart. Don't especially like the Caribbean or Chipotle flavors personally.

seconded on both points.

sri racha tastes pretty good with asian foods. i use it with mustard and soy sauce occasionally.

tabasco has a quality about it that seems to bring out other flavors and just sort of make them...better. it's like a catch all. still, using one hotsauce for everything is whack.

valentina's hotsauce is pretty okay if you want badtastic taco bell flavor.

ultimately i think it boils down to what you're putting the hot sauce on, but if i have to choose just one i'd pick the green habanero el yucateca. that stuff is AMAZING on pizza.

Srirachi is only hipster if you're non-Asian.

Asians have been using that stuff forever. It's like what condiments do you have in the fridge? Ketchup, salt, pepper, mustard, srirachi, hoisin, black bean garlic sauce, and another chili sauce.

I will eat ANY hot sauce and appreciate them all for their unique personalities - any other approach is amateur. Crystal has long been one of my favorites for southern/cajun food. Katrina wiped out the old plant that stood beside the freeway and it didn't taste the same for a couple of years but now it is as good as ever.

I do not have a favorite hot sauce much as I do not have a favorite dish soap or toilet paper. It's a utilitarian product to cover up bad food when you find yourself in dire circumstances. If you're finding yourself in such circumstances often enough to develop strong feelings about brands, you should try to fix your life.
