Thanks. I've been into Whiskey for a while but I have mainly stuck to Irish whiskey. I've been looking to branch out and try different types.

Try jefferson reserve if you can find it. Balcones makes some very nice whiskeys that aren't strictly bourbon, but are so close that to taste them you'd think they were just a bourbon at a very extreme end of the smokiness/sweetness/whathaveyou scale

i'd like to add Jefferson Reserve to that list. Never had Basil Haydens though.

Garrison Bros. is some of the best bourbon I've ever had. Would definitely recommend.
It's not cheap though. Probably run you about 80 bucks or so.

I was really disappointed with that rye.

Bulleit was substantially better, and I'd have trouble deciding between a bottle of that and a bottle of Old Overholt.

Just get some black label or rye. Can't go wrong for the taste. Can only go wrong because you're now supporting nips.

For real. I had a bottle of Maker's Mark, a bottle of Knob Creek, and a bottle of Jim Beam. Guess which I one I drank last.

Why do Americans always have to put ice in their whiskey? It literally loses every bit of character once it's iced.

>> No.5492805

>>5492796
Sometimes we like a cool drink. Or if the alcohol is slightly more noticeable than one likes, an ice cube will bring just enough water to it as you drink it to smooth out the "harshness".

I hate stuck up neatfags.

i dont hate the taste of whiskey, but i sure don't drink it because its my favorite tasting beverage. i drink it because it gets me drunk and its just right for me atleast.

knob creek single barrel reserve.

thank me later.

>> No.5493991

Knob Creek is pretty solid, that's something the board usually agrees on. If you want to drop the extra money on a bottle of the single barrel (higher proof) that's your call. You can't go wrong with the regular.

Wild Turkey 101 is pretty good too, a bit cheaper than the others as well.

Eagle Rare is pretty good in my personal opinion, but some don't like it because it can be a tad sour.

Buffalo Trace is supposed to be amazing, but I've never seen a bottle around.

>> No.5494203

British one called penderyn if you can find it, its from Wales. If there's one thing us Brits know its alcohol.

question: I've been drinking a lot of evan williams black label recently

I even lick the top of the bottle to get excess bourbon.

On a drinking night 2 out of 7 days I drink at least 10 shots ... am I walking a thin line of alcoholism???

It's not affecting my work which is a good sign.

Should I keep enjoying myself in this way? I only ask because no one in my family drinks like this

>> No.5494263

i personally dislike buffalo trace. i don't know why it's regarded so highly... tastes like crap to me. and i love knob creek and wild turkey (never tried eagle rare).

other honorable mentions: four roses, jim beam devil's cut

alcoholics don't have drinking days, they need booze to function normally. as in they could literally die from withdrawal if they suddenly quit. they NEED alcohol, despite whatever negative consequences it may have.

then there are problem drinkers and abusers. they're not psychically dependent on alcohol but they might binge drink often to the point that it negatively impacts their daily life. they continue to drink despite negative consequences.

really only you can determine whether or not you think booze is or will be a problem for you. you need to ask yourself why you drink in the first place.

I've got a bottle of this. It tastes pretty foul by itself, but I feel obligated to get rid of it somehow. Any suggestions? I was adding it to hot chocolate, which was good, but now I'm out of cocoa mix. I was thinking of just adding it to boiled water next time. Any other suggestions?

nice I don't feel regret

I drink because in the short term I have nothing to do and nothing to look forward to

drinking doesn't make my long term goals impossible and at the same time it makes listening to my vinyl collection greater

The ubiquitous use is the "mudslide". Google it. It's good added to coffee, drizzled over ice cream or in milkshakes.

Christ what plebby taste in bourbon /ck/ has. I thought we at least had a couple alcoholics on this board who don't live in a trailer park.

If you're actually looking for a nice bourbon:
Bookers No 7 Year is alright. high proof (>120%) so can dick wave too
Blanton's if you like more of a scotch chacteristic (smokey, somewhat medicinal, etc)
George Dickel Barrel Select is amazing for its price. Has slight flavors of green tea in it. It's mindblowing.
Elmer T Lee is also good for its price although its harder to find.
Four Roses Single Barrel is a hit with a lot of people who are new to bourbon. It's got kind of a fruity taste throughout and even a bit chocolate-y.

That should be enough to get your feet wet. Nothing too crazy expensive and nothing too white trash.

It also works quite nicely added to anything involving milk.

I recommend a vanilla milkshake, or if there's an Arby's near you, the Jamocha milkshakes they serve there.

I like the taste of whisky, but sometimes, on hot spring and summer nights, I like a cool drink, and I'm not always concerned as much about the subtle flavors of the whisky itself.

Thinking that every time you want to drink whisky, you have to be able to appreciate all the available flavors is a bit asinine.

Buffalo trace was actually incredibly dissapointing. But thats just my opinion

I reccomend rowans creek
