So I got some corn because they were 20 cents a piece
...what do I do now?
I know it sounds retarded, but i've never cooked corn on the cob before.

Do I just boil it for so many minutes?
How long?
Can I cook them in the microwave?

>> No.5464441

Boil for 8-10 minutes or microwave for 3-5. Start low and you can always microwave it more.

Chuck them in a 350 degree oven. Leave the husk/silk on. Roast em in there for 35 minutes. Take them out with a dry oven mitt or tongs, then peel back the husk. It beats boiling by a long shot. Easier and doesn't mute the flavor like boiling water tends to do.

Microwave in the husk for five minutes. Perfect everytime, and you get the nice corn flavour from the husk. Wait a minute, peel the leaves back, and you can use them as a holder. The place where it sat in the microwave will be kind of burnt and chewy, and delicious

>> No.5464546

oh god I just got these from stop and shop and ate 6 ears

just boil them for 2 mins or just eat them raw like I did with my first 2

I'm thinking about going back for another dozen at this price

You can eat them raw, theyre sweet and juicy, and tbh I prefer it better than boiling them (about 10 mins). its difficult to undercook them coz as said theyre tasty raw. overcooking them? ehh.....
If you got a pan or grill just oil it a lil with some oil and brown them a bit, on the cob of course.

I feel like asking /ck/ how to cook something is satisfying because it's like asking a Parent how to cook something. Everyone's got Dads, Moms, Grandparents or other designated legal guardians that cooks a different way, so there are infinite different nuances between each style of cooking.

However, it is also accepted that using the website www.google.com and operating the "Search Bar" yields results with the most positive feedback. So that begs the question....

Why do people ask /ck/ on how to cook something as buttfuck simple as CORN, where waiting for replies on "how to" can take more than an hour, instead of simply google searching it?

should be boiled 5-6 minutes actually. any longer is overkill (will make the corn wrinkled and ruin flavor)

Cut kernels off 2 raw shucked cobs, add 1/2 cup cold black beans, 1 diced tomato, 1 diced jalapeno, and 1 diced red onion. Splash in some vinegar, add cracked black pepper and salt to taste.

Let that sit in the fridge overnight in a covered bowl.

Salad time! Eat by itself, on top of pork or chicken cutlets, or in tacos. Enjoy.

Two options in my book.

One, pull out all the silk and grill the corn in the husk with nothing fancy whatsoever. The husk will impart an odd-but-not-unpleasant grassy flavor. Some butter and salt after it's cooked and it's absolutely wonderful.

Otherwise, boil it until it's just perfectly tender, 10 minutes or so. Drain and allow the cobs to cool, and then shave all the corn from them. Place the corn in your freezer, and use it throughout the next year for any recipe that calls for corn. You will not regret it.

Sometimes seemingly simple things are retardedly complex. Like making coffee, for example

Also, people on google microwave bacon and use premade crusts/canned fillings/canned whipped cream and call it "baking"

If I leave it in the cabinet, I get these beetle things in it. Keeping it in the fridge keeps things nice and bug free.
Also I don't have a lot of cabinet space, so it frees that up a bit

I'll probably pick up another handful of them after work tomarrow

Take off the husks and boil them, or just throw them on a grill with the husks on just like they are for a while, which is personally what I prefer.

It's not the worst thing ever you know, and being so easy means that the Microwave bacon you Do have the time for wins out over the baked-in-oven bacon you have no time for.

Are you retarded?

Microwave or grill them on a barbecue in their husks. Set for a few minutes and open them for perfectly steamed corn with maximum corn flavor. Bonus points if you soak the corn first in a strong seasoning brine first like vegetable broth, bay leaves and garlic and copious salt before grilling.

Serve with melted butter brushed on the corn after removing the husks.
