Why is it that not a single Masterchef competitor was ever able to cook their steak even close to well done in the pressure test? Even if they couldn't manage to keep it tasting good, how hard is it to at least cook the steak until pink is gone?

It is physically painful for a chef to cook meat well done. If you are in a quiet restaurant, and you oreder a well done steak and listen very carefully, you can almost hear the groans from the kitchen.

>> No.5445501

>>5444662
Well done meat is inferior. Ask literally any professional chef. Overcooking kills the flavour, and ruins the texture. If you like well done steak, you might as well just order chicken, since you obviously just dont like the taste of beef.

>> No.5445531

That's objectively incorrect way to cook it. It's cooked rare as default.

>reading comprehension

the question they asked was why people in a cooking competition are incapable of cooking a steak long enough to meet the requirements of the challenge (which is usually one steak rare, one medium rare, one well done) not what tastes better

>> No.5446534

This is some show condoning and encouraging well done meat? The fuck? Sounds like some shit I'll never watch.

>> No.5446572

>>5446534
Not really. It's a pressure test where they have to make three steaks, all at different temperatures, within the allotted time. Most of the time it's one steak rare, one medium rare, one well done.

They point out every time that 'even professional chefs' have a difficult time making a proper well done steak, and that most people eat their steaks medium-rare or medium at most. And the few times they have steak in the elimination challenges, they remark if it's too overcooked (aka usually anything above medium).

I was in Italy recently and ordered a med-rare steak at a restaurant. I got something that was blue-rare, actually raw and barely warmed in the middle.
I'm not eating steak any other way from now on.

>> No.5446676

They're a.) afraid of overcooking it even more and b.) inexperienced ruining meat

American and disgusting has nothing to do with it. Nice meals deserve a table. not everyone makes nice meals all the time. hell, some kitchens have a TV. and many people live alone or with the roommates who don't really elect to sit and eat.

"Why can't the chefs meet the requirements of this challenge" is a good question, but "Why is this retarded-ass challenge demanding that chefs ruin good meat" is an even better question.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter is the one guy who can convince you to consume human meat, at least as an occasional delicacy. Ever had to deal with rude neighbors or coworkers? Now you won't have to anymore.

The food stylist for the show runs a blog here: http://janicepoonart.blogspot.ca/
She blogs about the meal prep for almost every episode.

Unless the steak is starting to go bad, why would anyone cook it until the pink is gone?
