I remember going to Burger King as a kid and getting tubby custard along with a Lala plush keychain. I thought it was out of this world that tubby custard was real.

Then it was all ruined when my siblings told me it was vanilla pudding with pink food coloring.

small packs of yu-gi-oh cards. i wanted them so badly. but my family never went to mcdonalds. and when at last we happened to make a visit, the offer had expired.
i was too polite to say anything to my parents, but i think my dad knew how much i was into yu-gi-oh, and how disappointed i was, since we drove past a mcdonalds every day to and from my elementary school, so one day about a week after the offer had expired, he asked my to take a trip with him to the grocery store, to help push the cart, and just as we were about to leave he pointed to a rack near the door and told me to pick out two packs of yu-gi-oh cards. it was like the world was suddenly a bright, shining place. i still have those cards carefully wrapped up somewhere, in their original foil.
My dad's a pretty nice guy.

oh hey, that reminds me of another situation: when i was in 5th grade, all my fellow students couldn't wait to get out of the classroom, but i hadn't had the eagerness to learn crushed out of me because i'd been encouraged in the idea that learning was fun at home for as long as i could remember, so i studied hard and always ended up having the answer whenever a teacher asked a question. one day one of my teachers brought in a box of harry potter posters, (i was a fanatic of the books back then, and felt like i'd never wanted anything so much in my life.) the deal was, the teacher asked a question, and whoever had the answer'd get a poster. repeat, until none were left. the entire class leapt up at once flailing their hands at every question, since even a wrong answer was awarded with a poster. i raised my hand higher with every question but was never called on, because i'd ever always been the only one to offer answers before this, & the teacher was happy the other kids were finally interested. at the end, some kids had two posters, and i was the only kid who'd not been called on. then class ended with the bell. my dad had come to pick me up, and asked what we'd done that day. i mentioned we'd had a contest for harry potter posters, but didn't want to be a downer when i was happy to see him, so left it there. he probably saw i'd come away empty handed, and knowing that the harry potter books were the first books that really got me into reading on my own, he must have done a little sneaking around, because the next day when i came to visit, (divorced parents, was visiting his house) he said he thought he'd seen something odd in my room, and i should run up and check. i opened the door to find a floor-to-ceiling colorfully painted harry potter poster pinned to my previously empty wall. just the one i'd been hoping for. it was a glorious feeling. i used to sit on the bed and just stare at the print with its carefully painted brushstrokes & whorls of color.

(we're both book-fanatics)
i can't change what'll happen in the future, but i can sure have some awesome silly times with him, as many as i'm able, right now (though we're both much too awkward to ever admit anything like that in those words to each other's faces)

Before they banned Kinder in the USA and made all the toys 1-piece figurines, they used to have these little chinese toys withl like 12 tiny pieces, and it was kind of hard assembling it - but after that you get a mini toy car that actually works (usually it was the kind you pulled back and let go and it would go forward)

not bad for a toy in a chocolate egg... ill tell you i was dissapointed when i saw what kind of "prizes" cracker jack gives out.. the horror.

I think the McDonalds one just had it painted on, but the real deal popped out, yes. It was a little monster tongue with a mouth, like a xenomorph.

Now these bad boys were my absolute favourite, despite the fact it was near impossible to separate the pieces of the purple one.

These were always a disappointment to me. Looking forward to a toy and all you get is a storage container that is no fun. And they did them every year.

My grandparents were the type to go to McDonalds every day after their morning walk, grab a coffee, read the paper, and bullshit with the other old farts. So I would usually get McDonalds toys in my stocking at Christmas.

They would buy entire sets and still give me regular presents, though. If that's all you got then that blows, anon.

Pic related, had the entire set of these Mini Streex and used to pretend they were F-Zero cars.

I loved all of their character cars.

The Fraggle Rock and Tiny Toons ones were also my favorites. And I still have a Spider-man and Venom one hanging around somewhere.

Anyone else sometimes eat food from places they went to as a kid just for nostalgia? I find myself eating pizza hut even though there's many local pizza joints where I live.

I started the thread because that terrible Matthew Broderick Inspector Gadget movie that inspired the toys was on HBO, and it brought me back to a better, simpler time in life. Now it's all just alcohol and bitter memories.
