Hey Ro/ckstars! The fourth annual challenge is nearly over... Sad, I know, but who says the unneeded contests need to stop there?! Not I, good people, not I. The first week of June will bring us /ck/'s Casual Kitchen! Now during the annual this idea of a contest came up from time to time, people offered support, ideas, and even prizes. Thank you all. I'm throwing this thread together so we can keep posting ideas, thoughts, criticisms, and anything else they'd like to say on the matter. I'll shortly post the basic opening paragraph so you guys can tell me what you all think.

>> No.5429120

Once a month from the 1st to the 8th (starting 12:01 A.M. the 1st, ending 12:01 A.M. the 8th) Squee (Me!) will be holding /ck/'s Casual Kitchen Cook-off!

During this time the community is encouraged to participate by,

1. Posting Entries – A time stamped single photo is all that's needed for an entry but anything extra that you can do can't hurt! For instance a full vertical photo recipe or the recipe text posted with the photo.

Some form of nickname or handle is needed to enter. This will make tallying results and judging far easier for everyone.

Only one entry per ID.

2. Rating other's recipes on,
Creativity – 0 – 3
Presentation – 0 – 3
Desirability – 0 – 3
Interpretation of Theme – 0 – 3

The rating is done on a scale of 0 – 3. 0 being crap, 1 acceptable, 2 good, and 3 amazing. A short description after your rating is appreciated.

Rating will continue up to 24 hours after the posting period has ended (up to 12:01 A.M. the 9th).

The prestigious prize for all your tiring toil is my personal thumbs up!

I would like to thank Heartsonfire, BubbleBurst, and anyone else associated with The /ck/ Top Master Iron Chef Ultimate Nightmare Kitchen Survivor Challenge for the idea. I would also like to ask for their apology for my blatant ripping off of that idea.

The opening few paragraphs. In all honesty there isn't much change from the annual as far as the ratings go...
Other than that instead of using a program to map and tally the scores, I just intended to add them myself and whoever comes out on top wins.

Uhmm... Other than that I would like to remind people this is meant to be a CASUAL competition. I know you regulars are great cooks and in no way do I want to discourage you from doing what you do, but on that note feel free to not pull out all the stops and maybe just toss something together instead. I think this will be easier on you and won't intimidate former lurkers or even those completely new to the idea.

Sounds like a good plan, Squee. I like the 0-3 rating. Looking forward to it! I hope the themes will be fairly specific.

>> No.5429293

Looks like this could be cool. You know, using a program like Excel or Calc wouldn't be that hard if you're just adding points up but it would still be less time consuming than doing it by hand. If you want, I could probably do it for you. It wouldn't contain any difficult formulae, just summing up.

I like the 0 - 3 rating, too.

>(starting 12:01 A.M. the 1st, ending 12:01 A.M. the 8th)
What time zone?

implying this isn't going to be a dick measuring contest

I'm really looking forward to it, thanks for running it!

LOL, Borneo.
Yeah, I think, for me, it would depend on what the theme was. I usually tend to go overboard on themes I really like, but I can see me just throwing something together too.

>>5429108
Yeah, thanks for hosting this, Squee, and like I said, I'll kick in prizes for at least some of the rounds, but we can talk more about that later.

>> No.5429535

yeah i'll give this one a go looking forward to it

Looking good, thats pretty much exactly how I'd have done it. Can you give us an example of the kinds of themes or foods you'll be doing? For example is it going to be something where everybody cooks fajitas that week, or something like where everyone cooks tex mex that week?

I used googledocs (so Borneo could step in when I was away). I can build you a template if you want. It does make things easier to track.

Central Daylight Time. For the scoring if you'd like to get the averages or what have you for the scores instead of just me adding them up by all means go right ahead.

Lol. Okay everyone whip out your E Penises!
I do intend to occasionally compete as well and trust me mine will be thrown together out of random crap every time. You have my word!

Sweet. Don't feel obligated, but I'm not going to turn down possible free stuff. Thanks again.
>>5430354
Sure, man. I try to generalize things as best I can, so that it;s more open to everyone. There are those themes though that I think up at work that are to damn fun no to at least jot down...
Possible Themes - Breakfast, Specific Ingredients, Tiny Treats (Candies), Baked Goods, Muffins, Home Cooking, BBQ/Grilling, Finger Food, Inner Child - If given the opportunity "What would a child have for dinner?", and etc. It kind of ranges from basic ideas to some more creative or personal. I am, of course, open to suggestions for more themes.

That's up to you man. I'd welcome it for sure, but being this is held once a month for a week I didn't really see the need.

This sounds good. I don't have any suggestions to make but I figured it'd be worth registering interest.

As a casual drunk and a dedicated follower of the /ck/ challenge, I just want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate, and have an incentive to create OC, without having to commit to a multi-month tournament i know i wont be able to put in the time for.

I'm worried about her :(

I understand her being too busy to participate or vote but I though she'd at least come say hi or something.

>> No.5433904

I forgot this earlier....
If there happen to be any Drawfags who don't mind, could one of you make some form of logo or something?
I don't have any solid ideas of what I'm looking for honestly. Maybe having Squee from MTG (He's a goblin...) failing terribly in a kitchen setting. Fires, burnt food, people complaining, something like that. Or a kitchen mixed with a living room showing the casual kitchen idea.
Anything at all would be great honestly.
Thanks either way, I just thought it would be cool.
