well, my routine is typically this: i own a double shot glass and it's my only really suitable liquor glass. now i'm using the term "shot" as more of a quantitative measure, i usually fill up the double and drink like i would from a rocks glass. when i go out i rarely "do" shots unless the group wants to do a round.

Just picked up a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask at the Whisky Shop. About to crack that open.
The guy at the shop offered me a taste of a limited edition Laphroaig bottling. Think he said there were about 200. It was the greatest thing I have ever tasted. At £110 it's also the only time I will ever taste it.

Do you guys know there is actually Scotch produced outside Islay? You'll drink a hundred different premium ales, but god forbid you try a Scotch that isn't stewed in seaweed, smoke and peat for a decade.

Most people on this board aren't incredibly rich. Buying a good bottle of Scotch is a big treat. It makes sense to stick with what you know. Spending £40 on a dud is not a nice feeling. Islays are also one of the most cost effective ways to get very good Scotch if you like that style. The more subtle ones where age is what it's all about are too expensive and the 10 year expressions can be a little bland. Macallan is like drinking tap water.

That said I do mix it up from time to time with Talisker and Springbank if i'm in the mood for something lighter.

I don't think that's a precursor to what people who like food and cooking will budget towards things they want, simply because they want them.

I know poor people who treat themselves royally in certain things, from brand name clothing to alcohol. To each their own, and all the grades of income in the middle, no matter how much money there is before the bottom line. I think you are trying to state that, in a way, but I'm saying that there are almost zero assumptions you can make about income and choices people make with their limited or unlimited money.

I'm drinking Stone's Black IPA. It doesn't suck. It's hoppy, malty, and smoky. It is probably the darkest, coffe-black beer I have ever seen. High abv but you can't even taste it. Halfway through it starts hitting you, though. Truly a thing of beauty.
