If they ate healthy, why are they all fat by the time they get out?

they eat rice and beans bro. rice and beans. Maybe some meat chili once in a while.

They never eat MRE's unless they're in an actual operation.

As a soldier in DA ARMY, this is what I will tell you from my experience only

Garrison dfac (dining facility) food:
>varies from dfac to dfac (we have 4 on my post)
>God-tier hamburgers when they're fresh made, shitty frozen patties most of the time though
>Large salad bars from lunch and dinner with lots of veggies
>Breakfast is the best meal

Garrison field meals:
>lots of nasty "bagged" food that can be cooked while boiling
>Huge amount of waste, as everything that isn't eaten on the day it was made or put out must be thrown away (this includes pre-packaged cookies and the like)
>Always feels really dirty
>Would rather eat an MRE

Deployment chows cooked by contractors:
>Also varies from FOB to FOB. The bigger the FOB, the better the food
>Had delicious fresh baked bread on BAF
>Hot wing bar, 4 or 5 different kinds of wings
>Big helpings

Deployment chows cooked by actual army cooks:
>Food is all brown
>Small portions
>Lots and lots of pre-cooked pre-packaged boiled meals

MRES:
I don't have much to say about them. They suck, but if you're fucking hungry you don't care and you'll eat it

I'll also add that I had a lot of different experiences with meals down range. Our FOBs were closing so the meal services were severely cut back a few months into deployment. After the dfacs closed it started to get pretty desperate, but before that I'll say that we ate moderately well
