How reliable are studies revolving about a healthy diet, regarding what to eat and what to avoid?

I'd like to display it on the example of nuts.
If you observe people that eat nuts or don't eat nuts over the course of several years and check the results, how would you know these outcomes result solely from the consumption/not consuming nuts?

Tell someone he can eat whatever he wants but nuts. He basically ate anything over several years. Any diseases he had or had not had can't possibly be credited to the nuts
Tell someone he should eat nuts everyday. He will eat nuts every day but also other stuff, or he might be physically active, or his results might be altered due to genetic reasons.

Do you understand what I am trying to say? There is so much fuzz about health and food it can drive you crazy if you try to find the right path. Use salt. Don't use salt. Don't use olive oil. Avoid starch. Avoid meat, avoid diary. Canned food is bad. Genetically modified food is bad. Nuts are bad.

Would it be the smartest just to fuck what studies say and just eat what makes you happy? You're going to die anyway and restricting yourself from food just makes the time alive even worse. (this is not a fatty excuse. My main concerns are nuts currently. Reading through some stuff.)

You know what /ck/ really needs more is opinionated morons calling each other names and saying {citation needed} for another 100 posts.

So to get this started, cutting back on meat is vegan propaganda and we should all eat a huge pile of barbecued beef with every meal. It certainly won't give anyone colon cancer, and anyone who believes this is obviously with PETA.

Also, GMO isn't bad, but labeling it is bad.

Fact is that GMO product can be absolutly identical to a non-GM product, and even a GM plant can be identical to a plant which mutated the same genes naturally.

As it has absolutly no insight into the contents of the product ; why should there be a GMO label but not labels that warns people that a product is "NOT KOSHER" or "NOT HALAL"?

Yes, plants naturally evolve fish genes and toxic soil fungus. Natural random mutations over thousands of generations are exactly the same as physically inserting DNA from another organism. EXACTLY THE SAME. Why does everyone hate science?

I've had a random assortment of bio, physio, and psych classes that led me to one conclusion. It's all so fucked up that following any advice is not worth it.

Eat green stuff and lean meats (or eggs), drink water. Or some combination of those two things, such as eat soup and salad. Exercise. Oh look, it's what we've been saying for the past 50 years.

yes

op, you should suck down as many nuts as you want.

>fish genes
>that one GMO that had that and has not yet made it out of testing stages
>implying every GMO is the same/has the same added genes

Would it be less disgusting if the plant had a cow gene?
How about if it was a cow that had a plant gene that allowed it to produce medicine in its milk

I turned vegan basically just for health reasons. Chicks dig the "mah animals <3" reason.
Also I am a cheap fuck. Quality meat is expensive. I might eat a good quality well cooked piece of meat 5-7 times a year but that's about it. Feeling fresh as fuark.

Yet I think we consume too much meat. Everyone on their own but you shouldn't eat meat if
1) you couldn't kill and prepare an animal by yourself you coward
2) you eat meat with shit. marinating only. there is only one cruelty in eating animals and that is eating them with ketchup mayo or some similiar shit.
3) you are obese. you shouldn't eat anything at all you fat piece of shit

I am not the veg// asshole that tells you what is write or what is wrong. I am just saying I feel hella fine since living (99.8%) vegan. Even though I think we eat too much meat.. not saying we shouldnt eat any at all.

Oh lord, this shit.

Look here's the deal: The science and general understanding of nutrition is still extremely new. We are lifeforms ingesting other lifeforms in order to live. There's WAY more to it than the macro and micro nutrients that have been identified and we have naught but the faintest clue as to how it all REALLY works. All we can do is read the tracks in the sand basically and see what noticeable effects different things have on our bodies.

All these studies with pretty graphs and shit that you see have to be taken with a pretty fucking big grain of salt unless they were VERY well done.

So we have a nutrition coach in our gym who does plans for most of us that are national level or above in our respective sports. His advice: considering what I talked about above, your best choice is to just stick to whole foods. Foods that are minimally processed and preferably sourced locally from plants and animals that haven't been fucked with too much. So grass fed meats, butter, raw milk, produce without a shitload pesticides and herbicides, and stuff you hunt yourself. Basically paleo, but not a zealous and unforgiving. We eat whey protein, pasteurized milk, factory farmed food, white rice, oats, etc etc.. because we're not all wealthy or willing to eat the sheer quantity of starchy tubers we would need to maintain our performance levels.

So take that as you will. I used to be worried about all this little shit, counting calories, macros, what foods were "good" and "bad" for me and all that junk. Now I just learn to listen to my body and stay cognizant of how things affect my performance and physical/mental state.

so yes op, keep eating nuts. Their fine. Just don't eat ONLY nuts or like 10lbs of nuts a day. And don't eat a fuck load of peanut butter and tell yourself: "it's cool, it's nuts." First off peanuts are legumes, not nuts. Secondly we're talking WHOLE FOODS. Almonds: whole food. Peanuts: mostly whole food, some processing to make it edible. Peanut butter: nah man. Not even close.

not to say ban yourself from ever eating junk food again. Just eat it in moderation. 95% good food and 5% junk food is probably a good place to be there

"Listening to your body" might be the best advice but sadly food industries know how to manipulate their food accordingly. Don't you think fatties listen to their bodies aswell?

It's a part-part thing. Listen to your body and brain. Something supposingly good for your body sounds insane? That's because it is. Sometimes something supposingly healthy tastes awful. That doesn't mean your body "naturally rejects" it but because you had your body get used to shitty food.

Hell, living healthy doesn't always mean eating healthy. Mindset plays a huge fucking role. Knowing you eat something bad makes you literally feel bad.

Yeah would not have done that anyway. I cut back my olive oil though because it sounded reasonably. Using whole olives now. Good as snacks and for many dishes

pic related. That's how I eat my nuts. not salted or roasted. just plain nuts.

I'll add to the listen to your body thing, you eat until your body stops saying it's hungry, not until it start saying it's full.
Also sometimes you'll confuse thirst with hunger, so make sure and have a drink(of water) before having a second helping.

I don't know man. I never had an experience where eating a bunch of shitty food made me feel good or eating good food made me feel shitty. I mean yeah my brain is like "hell yeah cheese fries, beer, and pizza!" but my body is like "wow I feel really shitty right now".

Maybe if you feel like that all the time you just can't notice how terrible it makes you feel until you're off it.

>>5159299
yeah you're just talking about the act of eating, I'm taking about the effects of food on you.
