What foods do you have adverse reactions to? I can't drink coffee without feeling nauseous and having dry heaves all day. I can have as much tea and cola as I can pour down my throat with no ill effects, but just a cup of coffee makes me want to throw up. Is a coffee allergy even possible?

It's possible to be allergic to anything. But, what you described isn't an allergy, it's something else.

Allergies are easy to identify because they have very specific symptoms: redness/rash/itching/swelling where the allergen contacted the body. Poison Ivy for example--you touch a poison ivy plant, you get a rash where you touched it. That is an allergic reaction. If you were allergic to coffee then your hands would get a rash like poison ivy when you touched coffee grounds. If you drank it then your lips, tongue, mouth, and throat would be red and itchy.

Nausea and dry heaving has nothing to do with an allergic reaction. A different medical condition--sure. but it's not an allergy.

Coffee has a shitton of caffeine in it, at least twice as much as strong black tea. Satrbucks coffee is known for having even more than usual, and a "small" cup of starbucks is 1.5 actual servings of coffee ("medium" is 2). So basically, if you're getting a medium cuppa you're getting at least 4 cups of tea's worth, possibly even more. If you don't drink caffeine regularly, you could easily overdose (yes you can overdose, no it won't kill you, overdose literally just means taking a more than safe/comfortable amount)

i don't think so... maybe for someone who doesn't drink caffeine, ever.

i mean, it's not uncommon for me to just... fall asleep after a cup of coffee. if i drink it expecting it to keep me awake, maybe i let my guard down or something? i can rarely force myself to drink more than a cup and a half (i don't like feeling full), so if i'm making coffee i usually use about 3x the recommended amount of grounds, possibly more. it's disgusting sludge but apart from an energy drink containing 240+ mg of caffeine it's the only way i can function sometimes. i just plug my nose and hope i don't puke later.

Holy fuck, this. I actually made a thread about it a couple months ago. I used to drink coffee daily, but after losing a good 50 pounds I started to feel nauseous and would be bedridden all day if I dared to even have a small amount of it.

I have that problem if I don't eat enough before drinking coffee because of all the acid.

It also helps if you add milk to your coffee but sometimes cheap shitty coffee seems to make indigestion worse when I drink it, so while I get a really upset stomach from the swill at dunkin donuts it doesn't happen with a good coffee shop in town.

you might just be drinking shitty coffee, OP.

well it's because i tend to only sleep for 3-4 hours a night on average. nothing i can't fix myself. it's not that i can't sleep, i just choose to stay up doing nothing because i don't want to feel like i've ended the day, having done nothing, wake up, and have to go to the job i hate again... and again... and again...

never said it made sense. i suppose feeling like my body has forgotten how to breathe on its own every morning makes me feel... alive?

i don't crash on caffeine, though. miracle i guess.

I'm allergic to tomatoes and I can handle them with no problems. "Allergies" are defined by having antibodies in your system specifically for an allergen. If I eat cooked tomatoes I don't get any oral symptoms, but will be nauseous and sometimes (about 40% of the time) throw the meal up a few hours later.

Allergies have all kinds of different symptoms. Just because OP isn't getting a contact dermatitis reaction doesn't mean that he isn't allergic.
