There a little place like that by my house. Has been there forever. I don't know what it originally was (maybe a small drive in?) but nothing has survived in there since. Just a tiny eyesore in a big empty parking lot.

If the menu is small then the food is usually great. A small hamburger joint that ONLY sells hamburgers is usually amazing.

If they try and serve a full menu then it's usually reheated/fried processed food and tastes like shit.

While that place looks like it sucks (based on the pic of it's menu and health code designation), usually the best burgers come from little burger stands like that. Growing up, there was a little burger stand called "Jono's" where I lived that made the best fucking burgers ever. I still nostalgia hard about that place. Where I live now (all the way across the country), there's several little walk up/ drive thru burger stands like that that are some of the best burgers in the area.

The only place like that I eat is here. Burgers are great and the shakes are amazing, but I may be biased because I usually stop there after a backpacking trip when I'm hungry as fuck.

When I'm in my flat (college) there's usually tons of roulottes nearby. Sometimes I visit one that makes pretty awesome kebabs. It's pretty great.

On the other hand I once went ou with some friends and stopped on another roulotte and ate pork sandwiches. The mean was inside a container marinating and then it was boiled and dumped on the bread. It was awful

I live in Quebec and there are lots of little pataterie places that sell hamburgers, poutine, and hot dogs.

They are all pretty much the same and okay if you are hungover or drunk. They all look like OP's pic too.

The food was actually good, a bit overpriced but we made a very nice burger that was popular with locals. 90% of the staff took pride in serving good food, despite only working there as a front to sell drugs through a drive through window.

So I expect shadiness, a tasty burger, and perhaps some convenient drugs once I become a regular and/or befriend and employee.

Hmm... well, it's for granted that I wouldn't expect anything good from a place like that. You can always trust a yankee to do everything wrong. If it was run by mexicans, I might expect something worth my money, but seeing the bible quotes, I really doubt it.

Here's a vastly superior Euro version of the same businesses. They aren't even really "burger shacks", but rather best known for their meat pies, sausage and fries. And even still they do better burgers. Fresh cucumber, fried egg and pineapple, bok choy instead of lettuce, with toasted buns and an actual locally made patty that doesn't taste like rancid grease like all of the ones I've had in the 'states? Yes please. American specialities, done better than by Americans, since forever.

There's a place exactly like this in my town. It is actually, really called "Burgerland" and it produces three things. Burgers, fries, and chili, and nothing else.

The burgers are huge enough to be a meal by themselves, and if you order fries you will receive a pile, loosely contained in some kind of fry boat. The food is greasy, salty, and unspeakably delicious.
