You got Taco Bell, Del Taco, Chipotle, among others for Mexican. Panda Express for Chinese. How come there are no Italian fast food places? Pasta is one of the quickest and easiest things to prepare, you'd think there would be tons of these places popping up. All you really see is take-out pizza, but I'm talking the whole Italian gamut, lasagnas, raviolis, spaghettis via drive-thru.

There's also Piada, which is similar to chipotle but with italian food.

Not sure how widespread it is though.

You can find it in the mid-west as well, I have seen quite a few in my travels through Utah but significantly fewer lately.

I think Piada is limited to Ohio now. I'd describe the menu, but I would have to stab myself in the face if I said Italian Chipotle. It's so good damned good.

>> No.5045645

Sbarro is common in airports, but I guess that's not much different than a mall food court. Convenience/captive audience kind of thing.

Interesting question tho. I've been to Fazolis and it was about the worst fuckin shit I've eaten. Their idea of what "italian food" is is already dirt cheap, yet they manage to skimp that extra 5 cents and ruin it by making it completely unseasoned. I've have spaghettios with more flavor depth. And the breadsticks... Dry as a pretzel, but without the crunch. Shit was a crying shame.

Also, think about Papa Murphys. Wonderful, but you take it home and bake it. They do well. Italian food as prepared drive thru fare? I'm imagining the average fast food patron doesn't want to sit in their car and eat a big tub of pasta, nor do moms want that shit on their car seats, nor does it have that instant greasatisfacionry element that burgers and tacos do. Plus burgers and tacos are small, as is the average consumer's pea-brain therefore they rope-a-doped into ordering several small things that seem cheap, but added together cost as much as a sit-down meal. With Italian food you would immediately see the price since you're ordering a single large entree.

I forgot to mention why I the "italian food" in quotes... That shits not italian. I've traveled extensively and French food is the only "cuisine" that lived up to its reputation, which is being wayyy fuckin overpriced. Everything else turned out quite a bit different than its american counterpart. Pretty much everything was a shocker, especially Spanish.

> Protip: when in spain, bring some condiments, and if a large meal is served, don't be shy. Rest of the time it's paper-thin ham on white bread or tater tots and other lightweight appetizers passed off as "dinner". Imagine individual french fries on toothpicks.

All completely against the idea of Italian cooking. 3 strikes and you're out. No Italian would start a fast food restaurant, so you end up with shit like Fazoli's.

What??? Hamburgers probably take just as long as pasta to prepare. Shit even a taco is just as easy. People buy fast food because they don't want to do shit themselves

>> No.5046113

same reason there's no chink fast food, wop food is dressed up peasant fare, meaning it's cheap as hell, slow cooked everything, all mixed together and oversold with presentation.

a hamburger sandwich is a hamburger sandwich, you can make one in five minutes and sell it for 30% over costs.

Fra Diavolo is ten bucks worth of seafood, 2 bucks of vegetables and 1$ of herbs with $0.25 of pasta you're trying to sell on a big ass plate for $14 a pop. Just like Kung Pao Chicken or whatever

Am I going to be the only one here that legit enjoys Fazoli's? Yes, its nowhere near authentic, but I'm assuming when OP asks if there are any fast food italian places, he's not talking about authenticity. We're talking the Taco Bell of Italian food here: fast, easy, cheap. And I gotta say, for it being fast food, I really do miss me some Fazoli's since moving to the south. Just get yourself a chicken parmesan or one of those big sampler platters and you'll see. Plus you can't beat the endless breadsticks when you dine in. I don't know what one of you guys where talking about when you said they were like stale pretzels. They've always tasted like fluffy, buttery, garlicky heaven to me.
