Theres not a single legitimate reason to hate garlic powder.
Yes, fresh garlic is preferable, but this stuff does the job just as well.

/ck/ just needs to learn how to season shit properly.

Garlic salt =/= garlic powder

One time I came home from holidays and all my garlic had gone rotten so I used this. It's ok, I guess.

No.

My roommate was like this. I was always torn between declining the food he offered me, or asking him to make it without garlic salt.

I always ended up eating it politely.

yeah i know, but it does have garlic powder in it if i am not mistaken.

My understanding is that both garlic powder and onion powder are to be used when you don't want the humidity that comes with them as in rubs and breadings. It's ok.

>> No.4975142

I have a reason.

Garlic gives me toxic fucking farts so I seldom eat it.

Garlic powder is all right.
I actually use it in conjunction with the fresh stuff.
But they only taste similar, not the same.
I can't really say that the powder does just as good of a job, but it works when the fresh stuff is all gone. And I don't have to chop it or touch it, so my fingers don't get the smell on them.

My in-laws only ever used garlic salt. My mother-in-law claimed to hate garlic powder, but never ever tried it in her cooking. Personally, I think the flavor of the powder without any salt added is better.

>> No.4975230

I was so desperate for food once, I ate a jar of this on it's own.

>> No.4975239

It smells revolting.

>> No.4975263

Garlic powder just has a different flavor. I like it well enough, but I wouldn't use it as a replacement for garlic unless I really had no choice.

>> No.4975266

Works great for rubs when barbecuing or grilling. Other than that, go fresh.

I hate the my garlic powder is a solid brick in its shaker right now because of stupid humidity. Where do you buy silica gel packets?

Why not just buy more garlic powder? It's probably a lot cheaper. But if this is a constant problem for you I'm sure you can find some with anticaking agents already in it, although personally, I would stay away from that stuff.

Put some rice in it instead.

>> No.4975394

>>4975389
No, you don't open the packets or mix the silica with the food. You just put the unopened packets in the jar to absorb the moisture. The silica and the food never touch, it's fine.

You know that the packets say do not eat because the packaging itself is a choking hazard. Silica gel itself is non-toxic to the point that it's inert. You'd have to eat a lot to hurt yourself.

>> No.4975512

>>4975506
Right, because a child, or anyone for that matter, with the capacity to read would confuse that as something you eat and choke on it. Get the fuck out of here. Sand is also completely safe and non-toxic but I wouldn't eat that shit either.

Agreed on hate. Similar thing with the snobby / elitist attitude to a lot of stuff, which often starts out merely as a preference but then gets set in concrete.

>Yes, fresh garlic is preferable, but this stuff does the job just as well.
>but this stuff does the job just as well.
Er, no. Anybody who truly thinks this needs to re-train their palate.

There are certain things that ground garlic is actually *preferable* for compared to the fresh —because of the tendency of fresh garlic to burn and go bitter, because you're looking for garlic flavour while keeping to dry ingredients— but normally fresh garlic should be the choice.

>> No.4975521

>>4975504
It tastes different and is completely dry.
Fresh garlic is more acidic but less concentrated than the powder.
Powder is better for seasoning meats,
fresh is better for sauteing.

He was just providing an interesting fact. There's no need to be so rude. I, at least, appreciated it.

And this 'do not eat' business was just an easy mistake to make.

I like to use garlic powder in the breadcrumbs/flour for fried chicken.

I love granulate garlic, OP.

As a professional chef, we always use this in sauces, stews, casseroles, marinades and charcuterie.
