After recently reporting their third-quarter earnings, CEO and Founder Steve Ells said that a three to five percent price increase on Chipotle food goodies may be on its way as soon as next year. The actual price increase will depend on general ingredient inflation and “then what it costs us to remove GMOs from the rest of our ingredients,” Ells stated.

ITT: Monsanto is a bretty good guy.

I feel so sorry for you people.

>> No.4918216

>>4918128
I know you're trolling me but when it comes to Monsanto I can't help myself. Especially in light of the fact that so many people in this thread seem to defend GMOs (why? Is it because this is a Chipotle thread and you guys find whatever they do automatically abhorrent?).

Monsanto and GMOs at large are not only a threat to our bodies but the environment, the economy, and personal liberty as well. The way things are going within our generation Monsanto will have near total authority over our food supply. As dramatic as that sounds you only have to do a few Google searches to see that Monsanto is aggressively pushing an agenda for monopoly.

They are trying to damnedest to eliminate a vast majority of crop breeds by buying up remaining small farms and seed companies (we've already lost countless thousands of varietals in the past hundred years). The loss of genetic and cultural heritage isn't even the big issue though, because as they replace all possible crops with Monsanto patented ones, if an innocent farm is pollinated and contaminated with the genes of Monsanto crops, that farm's crops will become legal property of Monsanto. There is already legal precedent to this even though it's ridiculous since plants can be pollinated by wind and insects. If Monsanto grows unchecked they will have legal right over home gardens as well.

There is also the issue of Monsanto's genetically modified pesticide producing corn, "Roundup-Ready" crops, and farmers locked into modern slavery by making the mistake of locking into contracts with Monsanto's sterile seeds. Not to mention Roundup itself. Roundup is likely the culprit behind the decimation of the world's pollinator population (which will mean a third of our food supply will suffer) but because Monsanto has our government paid off and our public brainwashed into DEFENDING their products nothing is being done.

TL;DR: stop defending Monsanto GMOs just because it's trendy on /ck/ to hate Chipotle.

New York is about as bad as Californ-I-A. A lot of the taxes that we pay here go to support illegals. You pay for it too regardless of whether or not you go to chipotle, that's a minor issue. You pay for it in taxes on multiple levels and stupid laws such as that weird city you have where illegals are welcomed.

It's also more subtle where people aren't allowed to fly an American flag or speak English, also even more subtle is when people who do speak English are threatened and the cops wont do jack about it because that might be deemed "RACIST." The R word. That's Cali.

I'm too tired to argue so I'll just bulletpoint a few things so you can do actual research yourself instead of defending Monsanto :)

-I didn't say Monsanto was suing farmers for contamination yet, but rather that there is legal precedence now in place that allows them to. Look up the verdict made in OGSATA v. Monsanto, specifically regarding what defines as "trace" contamination (1%) as well as the court's decision on accountability regardless of intent to profit (meaning even if you don't know you're using contaminated seed, you'd be held liable).

-"trace" contamination as the upper limit is ridiculous because Monsanto's GMOs have already tainted over 90% of soybean, sugarbeets, and nearly 70% of all corn grown in the US. Furthermore their GMOs are increasingly being modified to be wind-pollinated at further distances. Look up how SCOTUS set precedent on deregulating GMO alfalfa (a notoriously wind-born seed, capable of traveling for miles), of which former Monsanto lawyer Justice Clarence Thomas ruled on.

-it's true that the reason for the decline of bee populations in recent years hasn't been sussed out yet but it's frankly moronic to say that glyphosphate is harmless when it can be toxic even to humans. POEA which is another toxin is a secondary ingredient in Roundup. Both glyphosphate and POEA have been found to alter genetic material in human and plant cells, by the way. To think that bees and other pollinators are somehow immune is being willfully ignorant. You can look up toxicity experiment results of both agents (but make sure to check what institute and fund is behind the research!).

It takes a bit more effort than you're used to expending but I think it's worth it to learn something new. Have fun!

Six eu countries planted Bt maize in 2009, with Germany having discontinued planting at the end of 2008. Spain was by far the largest eu grower with 80% of the eu total Bt maize area and a record adoption of 22%. The 2009 hectarage in the six eu countries was 94,750 hectares compared with a 2008 total of 107,719 hectares, (including Germany’s 2008 hectarage of 3,173 hectares), or a 2008 total of 104,456 hectares (excluding Germany’s hectarage). Thus, the decrease from 2008 to 2009 was 12,969 hectares (including Germany’s 2008 hectarage) equivalent to a 12% decrease, or 9,796 hectares (excluding Germany’s 2008 hectarage) equivalent to a 9% decrease. The decrease was associated with several factors, including the economic recession, decreased total plantings of hybrid maize and disincentives for some farmers due to onerous reporting of intended plantings of Bt maize.
Since when?

You can have bad harvests even with GMO's (though instead of being more frequently and due to pestilence, it's more likely to be natural disasters). Last year's drought was a prime example in my area (and persisted in some areas this year, too). Entire fields were completely unharvestable. And other things, like GMO's bring about water issues that are sustainable only in the short term, etc.

But I'm not disagreeing with you; I'm just playing devil's advocate. Because GMO's are not perfect end-all be-all solutions in the slightest, though they are beneficial at this moment.

>> No.4924264

It is high ignorance when people say we need GMOs. This is because non-GMOs do just as well and actually better than GMOs. The problem stems from the farming methods being used and the absolute need for super profit margins by industrial farming companies.

Maybe in regulated markets that are willing to pay more for food, or are simply unable to grow GMOs. The reason non GMO is a thing here is because of all of the mah organic mah non GMO, and people for what ever reason are willing to put a premium on it.
The non GMO farmers aren't successful because of their magic growing methods.

You see, if a corporation sold something harmful, eventually people would figure it out and stop buying. We don't need no nanny state to tell us what's good for us. All it does is distort the natural free market and prevent the invisible hand from doing what comes naturally.
