/ck/ let's have an appliance thread, and let's talk about good appliances

HIGH QUALITY APPLIANCES, my family always buys cheap walmart brand shit but im ready to branch out and invest in the more expensive and hopefully significantly better ones

pic related is something im currently looking into, it's just a 3 cup rice cooker that costs $130... what makes it so good?

>> No.4860101

absolutely fucking amazing rice.

If you eat rice often, enjoy it on its own and have the funds go right ahead.
I love my zoji. It plays twinkle twinkle little star when it's done.

>> No.4860125

>>4860101
no way haha

i just bought 1 of their products but it hasnt arrived yet, an insulated bottle... did research on the company before i bought it and apparently they make real high quality things

but i dont know man... this is like $100 over any other rice cooker... i just want to know what it does so much better than the offbrands

>> No.4860131

get a multifunction one that's also a slowcooker/steamer.

Deep Fryers are a novelty toy, but unless you want to be your own fast food franchise, I'll stick with a heavy metal pot and basket

>> No.4860137

Never tried a Zoji rice cooker, but we have the air pots at work. Those things will keep coffee hot for DAYS

>> No.4860146

guys i want to buy all zojirushi products... i know there has to be somebody out there who has already done it though

i want to know how they feel and if there are ANY regrets at all

>> No.4860172

I have that rice cooker, it's really nice.

Honestly, though, if you're just making white rice over and over like me, I think it's a bit of a waste of money. I'd rather invest in a quality food processor and have a cheapo rice cooker.

now what in the world would i use that for?

Hummus. Yea baby.

And gazpacho.

What the hell. My (Asian) family has been using the same $50 rice cooker for the past ~10 years and it cooks rice perfectly fine. You don't need to go overboard with this shit, it's literally just boiling water.

>> No.4860218

>>4860210
It's keeping water and steam at a very exact temperature. Using a stove I get fair results. Using my cheap rice cooker I get better results. I imagine a zojirushi would give flawless results

You must be Filipino. Most other Asians have a Zoji or a Tiger.

>> No.4860223

can somebody recommend me a good coffee maker? one that pours into an insulated stainless steel mug instead of the glass pot on a heating pad that i currently use

>> No.4860234

>>4860210
I have been using one that was $20 for the last 5 years. Cooks rice really well, I can't complain.

I think the more expensive ones just give more options like ones for different rice types, or for making congee or steaming vegetables. The really really expensive ones, that go for $800-1200 are more like pressure cookers. I guess if you cook rice every day of your life and you eat it in a way where it's not just soaking up some sauce it would be worth it.

My parents bought a kitchen aid stand mixer they used and are giving it to me, I can't wait to mix the shit out of stuff

I have a Zojirushi that makes brown and white rice. It also has sushi rice and porridge options.

>keeps it perfect for 12 hours

Best high-end kitchen appliance I have.

I've had that rice cooker for three years now. It's excellent.

Is that kind good for brown rice?

The $20 rice cooker I bought was great for white rice, then I made brown rice in it and it burned, and now white and brown rice will burn and stick before it goes to warming mode

>> No.4860279

>>4860267

It has a brown rice setting on it. It takes a long time to cook, but damn it's friggin' perfect every time.

>> No.4860679

> It takes a long time to cook

It's better to set it before you leave for work. No one has time to sit around for a brown rice cycle in the evening.

>my family always buys cheap walmart brand shit

Your family must be quite well-off to be able to afford cheap shit.

I can't afford it, as I just don't have money to throw away at something that will break down with in a year and end up having to buy another.

>> No.4860965

>>4860752
are you trying to say that it's harder to afford the $20 rice cooker instead of these high end ones?

i think that's a little ridiculous

what is the benefit of a rice cooker?

i make white rice every two or three days and i just boiling some water in a pot and let that shit simmer until its fluffy

hmm you get the ability to "set it and forget it" and apparently some of the higher end ones make rice better than a human has the potential to and are consistent

why don't you just ask /ck/ the right way to make rice without a rice cooker?

>> No.4861301

why spend $400 on a dishwasher? are you too stupid to get your dishes clean with a sponge and a bottle of dish soap? you should look up some YouTube videos, it's easier than you probably think. I can wash dishes all by myself now. stupid dishaboos and their overpriced Jew tools.

>> No.4861376

>>4861301
That's not quite the same. A dishwasher does multiple things to clean the dishes that you would otherwise have to spend time doing.

When making rice without a rice maker you just need to know how long and a what level to set the burner. Everything else, like with the automatic, is just measurements and waiting for it to cook.

>> No.4861413

>>4860997
It's mostly for convenience, not taste.
It's not uncommon for Asians to make rice multiple times a day, especially if it's for a family.

>> No.4861439

multiple things? you mean it washes AND dries the dishes? absolutely amazing, totally worth having a huge ass expensive machine for.

No, he's saying that the regret of low quality will stay long after the joy of a cheap price fades.

>> No.4861467

My grandmother was Japanese and she always had a Zojirushi or two filled with perfectly cooked rice sitting on the counter along with seaweed and seasonings. Any time we wanted to snack we could just grab a bowl.

Then we'd have to go back home and for dinner every night my mother would make rice out of a cheap old Oster she'd bought when she first moved out of my grandmother's house. "You don't need a fancy rice cooker just to cook rice" she'd say. Her rice was always either soggy or dry but she'd never admit it.

Since my grandmother passed away about 4 years ago my mother hasn't stopped using her old Zojirushu every day.

>> No.4861650

>>4861439
I'm not saying you should get a dishwasher. Just that it gives you more time vs hand washing than a rice cooker vs a pot on the stove, which takes about as much time if you know how to use the pot properly.

>> No.4861652

>>4861650
>about as much time

Explain to me how 30 seconds (15 seconds to fill the rice cooker, and 15 seconds to press a few buttons to set the time and the program) is "about as much time" as 30-90 minutes (depending on the type of rice).

I know it's hard to imagine this if you're a student or something like that, but for people who actually work for a living, having the rice already done when you get home from work is kind of nice.

>> No.4861661

>>4861652
Are you retarded? When you make rice in a normal pot, do you just sit there staring at the stove for half an hour?

>> No.4861666

>>4861661
Because you can set up a pot of rice on the stove before you leave for work and have it done when you get home. Gotcha.

>implying all rice cookers have a timer function

You do raise a valid point, but is your job so shitty that you cant wait 40 mins and you need cooked rice immediately when you get home?

>> No.4862461

>>4862453
Shitty? No, it's actually a great job, but on my days on I work 12 hour shifts and generally have to drive more than an hour to get to location. You don't want to wait 40 more minutes when your last meal was 7+ hours ago.

Also, I wasn't referring to the timer, you can leave cooked rice in one for around a day without losing quality.

>> No.4862462

>>4862453

Yes actually, that's the whole point of a rice cooker. It stops when the rice is done cooking and goes to Warm mode.

>> No.4862501

>>4862453

First you said it's the same amount of time. Now you're agreeing that it's not the same amount of time, but that 40 minutes shouldn't matter to anyone. Next I'll have you agreeing that rice cookers are great, but I have dandruff so I should feel bad.

Well, you're right. But if I don't use scalding hot water to wash my hair, the dandruff mostly goes away.

>> No.4862552

>>4861467
How old is that rice cooker now? I've heard stories of around 15 year old rice cookers still making perfect rice as if it's day one since it was used.
