Whisky thread? Whisky thread.

I'm currently having a glass of pic related. It was the first bottle of scotch I bought. It tastes ok, I just got it because it was cheap and wanted to try scotch. Since then I've tried Glenlivet, Glenfiddich and Lagavulin. Going to buy another bottle soon and was looking for recommendations in the $50-70 price range.

Jim Beam black label is my shit.

Maybe one day I'll find out whatever the better things are, but let's face it, at a base level alcohol does not taste good and we drink these concoctions to feel good, with taste coming second.

Black label on the rocks both goes down smooth and tastes good.

Absolutely untrue. Good whiskey, like other good spirits, wines, etc. can be absolutely amazing. Cheap spirits are brewed to be easy to drink in a mix, or to be affordable; good spirits are brewed primarily for flavor and complexity.

Glenfarclas 15 and Glendronach 15 revival are both quite good and in your price range. In some places, so are the various extra-matured Glenmorangie bottlings, which can be quite interesting. Quinta Ruban is my favorite of those out of the ones I've tried, still looking for a bottle of the PX one. Might also be able to get a young bottle of Talisker, again depending on where you are; sadly since Islays have become so popular lately they're a lot more expensive than they used to be.

Alternatively you could go for a different style of whiskey, you can get pretty stellar bourbon or rye for that price.

Currently have three bottles of whiskey open in my cabinet:
>Blanton's gold edition bourbon
>Balvenie 21 portwood
>Lagavulin 16
And I've got a bottle of George T. Stagg bourbon left from last year unopened that I'm hoping to open come holiday time and compare it to the new version.

Have you had the Pappy 20 yet? It's fucking amazing.

I would still trade one of my Pappy 20s for a bottle of Stagg. Stagg is insanely expensive where I live. About $550 per bottle. Fuck that.

Jesus christ that's ridiculous. Where do you live, if you don't mind my asking? I thought Canadian liquor prices were bad and that's still well over twice what I pay for a bottle. Also yes, Pappy is amazing stuff- I'd say it's about equal to Stagg imo, they're pretty different stylistically. Pappy is just really hard to get your hands on here.

I live in Denmark. I can get all the Pappy I want, but at 280 bucks per bottle. I got 5 bottles currently.

George T Stagg is a lot more rare in Denmark, but 550 dollars is fucking insane. I have 0 bottles currently.

I got close to getting a cheap bottle of Stagg. I was in this old liquor store, and there was a single bottle of 2004 release Stagg. The price tag said the equivalent of 550 bucks, but the first 5 had faded quite a bit, so it looked like it said 50 dollars. I was so close to getting away with it too. He spotted the faded 5 while putting the bottle in the fucking plastic bag, right before the transaction.

I was kicking myself all the way home.

McClelland's is kind of panned universally. It's not very good. That's why it's cheap.

I totally disagree with your idea of booze.

But I do agree that Jim Beam black is good. I used to look down on it because it's Beam brand but it's not bad at all for the price. I can drink it straight no problem.

I'm sorry but drink everclear and tell me it tastes good.

Alcohol is an overwhelming taste that clears out the others until you're accustomed to it and can then distinguish the other notes of the spirit. It's like every whiskey/whisky snob is trying to deny this fact. I'm hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks it tastes good on first sip.

jameson 12yr is one of my faves, my buddy is fond of jack single barrel. I find that i am fond of the sweeter irish whiskeys but i do love bourbons, wild turkey 101 is my jam when I am aiming to drink. On scotch itself i have to be in a mood of something like it and usually will get myself a finer cigar torono silver labels are what I usually get to smoke, if they are not available i get something with a darker leaf I prefer torpedo or robusto rolls in a thicker gauge.
