To my knowledge i have never eaten tofu.
I recently purchased pic related because my nutritionist suggested i try it.

What am i supposed to do now? All i know about tofu is it helps you drift.

More conventionally, it's alright in stir fries. It's pretty tasteless, used for bulking a meal out, like quorn.

The amounts and affects are trivial, but it's a point frequently emphasized in any 4chan-style discussion about tofu or vegetarianism. OP, I'd slice half a package into 0.5" slices, cut the slices into squares or triangles, about 2" on a side, then sautee them in oil. Leave them be until one side is yellow or golden brown, then flip. Then use them in a stir-fry or many asian dishes where you'd normally use chicken, or in a pasta sauce. You could also cut tofu into small cubes and add it to some ramen, with some vegetables or whatever else you normally add. (The Extra Firm variety you got is a good choice for this...softer tofu can fall apart a bit, and it seems like Americans new to tofu often dislike the texture of soft tofu).

Do you care about being athletic? No? Then you can probably eat it just fine.

If you care about being fit or athletic, then tofu (and soy in general) is a poor source of protein if you're looking to use it as a regular source.

You have to eat a ton of it to have estrogen-like effects.
Also there's a lot of studies that these compounds are actually good for men in certain ways - like lowering incidence of prostate cancer.
To say soy is either entirely good for a man, or bad, is really an oversimplification.

As >>4815008 stated, mapo tofu is good.
There's a variety of soups you can make with it, but miso soup is simple.
You can definitely fry it and make agedashi tofu or just eat it pan fried with some oyster sauce.
There's also a video on youtube that shows you how to make tofu cheesecake if you're feeling adventurous enough.

Right so to go into more detail. Im type 1 diabetic, and if i dont have a reasonable amount of protein every day my blood sugar can drop. When im eating something that already has it, like pizza or some chicken or whatever, that's fine. But sometimes i just eat some non-protein containing soup for a meal, and as i said, a lot of the time ill just grab some crackers or carrots if i feel hungry. The result is some days i get no protein at all.

So this was recommended to me as something i could add to my soup to make it have some protein. Of course i could just eat some cheese or something but that would change the flavor a lot, i thought it would be worth trying this.

Thing is im obsessive, so since i got some i kind of wanted to experience it fully, and not just cut some and drop it into soup, im sort of afraid i wont like it if i dont have a good first experience with it. Unless /ck/ recommends that... i dont know, thats the point of this thread. I dont know how to into tofu.

>> No.4815058

It's just overpriced garbage. Veggies, legumes, red meat, gizzards, etc. have any nutrients tofu has for much cheaper.

Also, you have to suck a lot of cocks to get a taste for it. Right up your alley OP.

The few cases where a man had something like secondary sexual characteristics develop, he was drinking like 4 quarts of soy milk per day.

If you're worried about this happenening, stick to fermented style soy foods like natto, miso, soy sauce or tempeh, as the fermentation process destroys the estrogen like plant compounds.

Here's what I do. Freeze and then thaw it. The texture is a little chewier after that. Drain it then marinade in whatever you like. I'm a fan of soy sauce and something spicy. Slice or dice and cook up with something else, like thin slices of beef from the same marinade and some veggies, then serve over rice.

OP, make mabo tofu. Throw it into stir fries (firm) and most soups (silken). Marinate in dressing or teriyaki sauce, cook in a pan, and eat on salad or as one of your plate components. Freeze and crumble, cook in Mexican seasonings, and put in enchiladas or burritos.

Note that freezing makes the tofu very spongy which is good if you're going to marinate it.

Also be sure to press it completely to draw out the water and allow the seasonings to flavor it better.

Mapo is godly, but it's actually quite difficult to prepare right. There's also Korean soontofu which is also difficult to prepare. But I advise you to try both of these dishes at restaurants to get over your tofu is gross phase.

Tofu is not a meat substitute, but it can be used as a meat alternative. The same way chicken isn't a beef substitute, but an alternative.

For simple tofu dish, I just slice some up, dry it, pan fry until golden and top with oyster sauce and chopped scallions.

For the record, this doesn't work well and Asians don't do it as a result.
Just accompany it with a strong sauce. I'd throw it into chilli or curries at the end to provide a counter to the heat. But you're safe to just toss it into broth and by extension soup, asian style.
Also op is a fag

Thaw the tofu then place in a marinade made from 2Tbs of Cheery vinegar, 2Tbs of worcester sauce, and a dash of Tabasco to taste.

Lightly dust tofu in flour, then gently roll in beaten eggs.
Pan fry till gold brown.

preparation
Toast pine nuts (see Tip); set aside to cool. Mix paprika, cumin, coriander, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Drain tofu and pat dry with paper towels. Cut crosswise into 8 slices, 1/2 inch thick. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat; swirl to coat the bottom. Add tofu and cook on one side until brown and crusty, 4 to 5 minutes; flip and cook for another 3 minutes. Add the honey mixture to the pan (it will bubble up and evaporate very quickly) and shake to coat the tofu. Serve immediately, sprinkled with the toasted pine nuts.

Oh, soup? Yes.

I'd probably recommend soft or medium tofu though- the firm / extra firm stuff has more of a springy mouthfeel and a stronger taste. I personally don't care for it.

Cut some of the soft kind into cubes and drop it in your soup at the end of cooking. Tastes and feels almost exactly like noodles.
