so depending on the position of the brownie on the fudgy-cakey spectrum it should be hazelnuts or walnuts. There is no sense in putting any other nut though.

Up north you will find more walnuts hazelnuts etc, Pecans are pricey in Yankee town... Here in the Dixie all one needs to do is pull over on the side of any road with a 5 gallon bucket and 20 mins later youve got 50$ (wholesale) worth of peecans (which prob retail for about 3-5$ per lb. in Yankee ville).
