Dirty stove? Heat/fire it up and throw some oil on there. The hot oil liquifies the dirt and lifts it off, letting it be easily scraped away. Pure grain alcohol works even better.

If the oil catches fire (it can happen if the stove is really dirty) extinguish with a quick splash of water.
