Can I buy rice and store it in my dorm without worry, then use a microwave to heat it up?

Yes, just make sure it's well sealed. Get some large plastic airtight containers.

Rice can go bad and absorb moisture, leading to bacteria growth.

I'd also recommend lentils.

No. Cooked rice should never be kept at room temperature.

I think he means boil it in the microwave.

can I microwave lentils as well?

Like mix rice and lentils then microwave it?

If that's what he means, then yes. I did that all the time in my dorm last year. But this year I just use the dorm kitchen because I can make a larger volume in one sitting.

>>4784718
Yes, but I wouldn't do it WITH rice. When I did that last year I would do them in the microwave separately, then mix them after they were done.

Boil the water, add rice or lentils, mix a bit, cook for a bit longer.

Also, stick a toothpick or wooden skewer in the water while microwaving. Superheated water is not good.

Microwave pressure cooker makes perfect steamed rice.

In Miami, I have trouble keeping rice longterm. Moths hatch even inside tupperware or triple wrapping. Gotta know your brand and store is clean, so don't blow all your money at once.

I never tried it, but you can.

I have to download GIMP to work on it, but this is what I came up with for "cheapest, easiest, sustenance, for most everyone" while I worked on something a bit more sophisticated.

The newest revision uses olive oil, eliminates the hippie crap, and is even cheaper. Lentils are also red and green in a 1:1 ratio, and I'm working on getting rid of the pills, but produce is hard to keep and is very expensive, so that's something else to think about.

Soak it 12 hours in the fridge, nuke it in a microwave rice cooker, add the stuff, and you should be good to go.

I ate this and pretty much only this for two months swimming 2 hours, 5 days a week.

Yes. Put it in glass or metal so insects don't get to it.

Was just at a local Walmart-like store in Ann Arbor, big college town, and they had stacks of $30 microwaves and $15 rice cookers for incoming hordes of students returning. I'd think you'd have better results with the ricer cooker, but if you don't want to part with the cash or the space (or there's a rule against rice cookers), I'm sure you can figure something out with a microwave.

Soaking > 4 to 6 hours might be problematic because of microbial growth, then. It's edible otherwise, but it can feel a bit ... al dente.

>> No.4785073

i don't know, op.k are you a worrisome perosn?

then if you are then no. but if not then yes.

>> No.4785080

Just buy a small rice cooker.
