You're probably thinking about that avant garde shit. With that they really go over the top to the point where the food just becomes decoration and there's little to no food on the plate. Right here I just cut up the airline chicken breast and tourne the potates. It really isn't all too fancy.

Studies out of my ass show that anything you can do to make the diner anticipate the food, makes the perceived, or at least reported, taste better. Atmosphere, appearance, friend telling you it is amazing, high price, waiting time, its the last one, you stole it, etc.

Make the food to eat, don't skimp on portions or make changes for appearance. But plate it the best you can. Aside from the decorative greens, OP didn't fuck that up.
