There used to be this nice chinese restaurant near to my house that was a dine in place with a full menu. But they also had a buffet of about 12 items, but all of them were high quality and really good. Nothing like the stuff at your typical, huge Chinese buffets. I miss the place....

The Asians took over an old shopping strip, and in the space that must have been a K-Mart or something like that, they built an ENORMOUS buffet. Instead of the 'usual' (or what seems normal to me) 4 islands of hotel pans and maybe a sushi bar, this place has more than twice that many foods underwarmers, a dim sum station, a stir-fry station, a Mongolian grill station, ice cream, fruit bar, real seafood which is rare for North Texas.

As you might expect, the quality control is shit. But plenty of FOBs eat there, so that goes for something, right?

I went to a Chinese Buffet in Spain once as a kid, you picked your meat raw and things to go with it, chose the style you wanted it cooked in and took it up front and the chef would cook it right in front of you in under a minute, perfect. And you could go up as many times as you wanted as it was a buffet.

No idea what it was called or if anything like it exists outside Spain.

yeah, i used to live near one just like that. fucking massive. quality was mixed, but there was so much stuff it still could be a good experience. this place had like 6 normal hot islands, 3 of which were very typical Americanized chinese dishes, one japanese, one non-ethnic, and one of friend apps. in addition to this there is a large mongolian grill, a sushi bar with 3 sushi chefs cranking out rolls non-stop, a few salad bars, a chilled seafood bar with all kind of stuff like skrimp, mussels, and octopus, plus 2 desert bars and ice cream.

there were bad dishes there, but plenty that were good, and the sushi was pretty ok, as well as the cold bar. lunch price was like 8 bucks and it was always packed as hell. i am not a fan of most Chinese buffets, but this was alright.

Mongolian places, I remember one that wasn't a buffet. They gave you a bowl to fill up with all the stuff like veggies and meat, and at the end added a bowl of noodles and cooked it for you. You were only limited by what you could fit in the bowl they provided, so obviously me and my friends would just crush the meat into the bowls for maximum amounts. They would of course partially compensate by giving you a smaller bowl of noodles to be cooked with it. Still, that place eventually closed down, probably because of people like me as well as sanitation issues.

I recently discovered this buffet that's on the way going towards my bf's place which is a two hour drive away. I like to stop out there and grab the lunch special when I can.
They serve raw oysters, raw clams, and raw mussels. They also have a really delicious dish with cold whole calamari served in a celery/chili sauce but the name escapes me.

They have a 'sushi' bar, but obviously the cuts of fish aren't the best quality and they skimp on it for the fact. I still enjoy their tempura maki rolls and takuan rolls.

There's an assortment of cooked seafood as well. There's also a stir-fry station. They usually have a new dish every time I go too. I got to try fried frog legs for the first time.
TL;DR It's a nice city buffet fuck you.

I get a little of everything... those green beans that seem to be at every buffet are addictive.

My favorite is when they have the sesame balls with the bean inside. But they're disappearing from all of the buffets.
I should just make them. I don't really hit up buffets anymore, and I have a recipe. But I have an insane fear of deep-frying things after an incident about 10 years ago.

Plastic seems to be really cheap in China. They even make plastic rice.
Buying it from a guy who makes this food in his house from cheap plastic and other materials is going to be cheaper than buying it from a guy who charges more to pay for all of the maintenance, time, employees, and any upkeep that is needed for the food.
Chinese people are cheap. It wouldn't even matter if they were only saving 1 penny for each product as long as it adds up to higher profit.

There was a restaurant in... I want to say Whitley, Kentucky (definitely somewhere in KY, though maybe not Whitley). Last year, they were actually caught with a roadkill deer in the kitchen. I'm sure a quick google search will confirm the truth of this post but I CBF to do it. You do it.

Many rumours start because of a ring of truth, you know. I recall also that in China last year, many restaurants in Chinghai and other western provinces were shut down for feeding rat meat to patrons under the guise of mutton, goat and lamb.

Story:
>be 13
>REALLY want something fried
>prep gyoza, heat up oil in saucepan
>as I fry gyoza, oil starts to smoke
>uh-oh... turn off heat, take it off burner
>oil is pretty much boiling and smoking
>OHSHIT.jpg - GET IT OUTSIDE
>as I take it to the front door, it splashes and hits the carpet
>THE BRAND NEW CARPET
>set the oil outside on the porch as it smokes and burns

So there were these burnt, melted spots on the new carpet and a saucepan of trash oil by the front door. My mom was... well, she was not happy.

I might invest in a little personal fryer and avoid all of that. For now, I just don't fry anything.
Ridiculous... I generally like to experiment in cooking, went to school to learn the techniques, and I'm a little bitch when it comes to frying.
