Why do we have such a hard time accepting that cruelty and torture is a part of our life whether we acknowledge its existence or not? You have everything to do with the cycle regardless if you decide to boil a crab alive. If it's not the cruel meat, then it's the vegetable. If it's not the vegetable, then it's the water depletion and fossil fuels used to grow it. If it's not those resources, then it's someone else suffering or dying so we can all reap their benefits. A resource you consume is a resource someone else doesn't get. TL;DR we may be able to directly control the ways we live out our lives, but we'll always be indirectly unethical in some fashion. And no there is no greater good between the two.

The world is unfair and harsh. Deal with it.

AFAIK there are few animals without brains. Those would be mussels, oysters, scallops, starfish, and the like. They only have nervous plexuses, very primary "brains" or central nervous systems. They're not really brains, they're just...sort of like computer hubs, where nerves interconnect, where a brain is like Google.

I still think they could evolve brains, and I do think they do deserve a chance at evolution, and so I do not actually condone eating or hunting them.
