Sup, guys. Anyone have knowledge about knife brands? Longevity/Quality/etc. I'm looking to buy my mother a new block set because hers is pitiful right now and she loves to cook.

Preferably something in the $50-$150 range. Any help provided is extremely appreciated.

You have the other half?

There's no other half and it's pretty outdated anyhow, especially with the Tojiro having gone up in price and so it's no longer the super value buy now excitement it was two years back.

Tojiro DP wasn't even a good deal two years ago. Maybe five years ago. They switched to VG-10 a long time ago and the prices are almost as much as a "real" knife.

sorry the poor college student with a tiny kitchen knife is the one i want to look into

>> No.4644599

just go to a costco or a kitchen supply store and buy them individually, dont buy a shit set. Waste of space and usually cant clean them well because of the materials they use.

get a decent chefs knife, a cheap filet knife, 1-2 paring knives, and a long serrated knife for various stuffs, and a honer. Can get all that for like 50 bucks and you'll never need anything else. When it gets too crappy/dented/bent toss it and buy another for 5-10 bucks.

that's a victorinox santoku
I wouldn't recommend it
the santoku isn't good at anything
get a smaller chef knife if you want a smaller chef knife
victorinox and dexter russell sanisafe are probably your best bets at that price range
most people like the victorinox because they're prettier, but sometimes you can find some killer deals on dexter russell blades
