/ck/, I'm going to be making dinner for my boyfriend tonight (lasagne with buttermilk bechamel, this recipe specifically :http://tastingnotesnyc.com/2012/11/07/6-ways-to-use-leftover-buttermilk-and-lasagna-with-buttermilk-bechamel/).). I can't think of a side to go with it other than stuffed mushrooms, but he doesn't particularly care for those. Any ideas for something somewhat light, or do you think it needs one at all? For dessert I was planning on making some kind of creme brulee, so any input there would be helpful, as well!
I'm teaching him how to cook so I'd like to make several dishes as opposed to just the main one, for the record

Fuck, it ate some of my post. I was thinking stuffed mushrooms for a side, but he doesn't particularly care for those. Are there any light sides I could maybe make to go with it? For dessert I was thinking some kind of creme brulee, but I didn't have it pinned down so any assistance there would be helpful as well

Maybe a med/greek veggie mix: artichoke hearts, black and green olives and some carrors for sweetness?

The only side I want with lasagne is a hunk of crusty bread. Dessert is totally preference but I've been craving a fruit tart or shortcake.

Why not garlic bread with fresh baked bread? Or a side of Tuscan white beans, those are always lovely paired with Italian dishes. Creme brûlée is delicious though it may be a little heavy after the richness of the lasagna, if you do decide to go with it make sure your side dish has a fresh or bright element (some kind of citrus salad or dressing for example).

That would be what I would normally do, but he's paleo and while he's bending the rules for lasagna, he probably wouldn't eat bread

Eek, I was kind of worried about the heaviness of it all but I couldn't really think of anything that was a good, mostly-fruit component (or something similar) that wasn't a cobbler

Make a lemon semifreddo! It's creamy like creme brulee can be but it feels refreshing on the palette.

This sounds beyond amazing, I've never made one so I can't wait to try! Thanks for the help

You could make stuffed artichokes or tomatoes with pine nuts if he dislikes stuffed mushrooms? Does he dislike stuffed food or just mushrooms?

Prosciutto wrapped figs, with a dollop of goat cheese filling the figs. It's amazing and won't spoil his appetite plus would work okay as an appetizer instead of a side. My mouth is watering just thinking of the taste

D'oh that sounds amazing, I may do that in addition!

This sounds like kind of the greatest thing ever, even if I don't make it for him I'm certainly going to make it for myself soon.

I ended up making a semifreddo, so dinner's postponed until tomorrow because it wouldn't be ready until 9.
Thanks, /ck/!

all good except goat cheese but thats a preference thing for me.
I would substitute fresh mozzarela
Make that change and that sounds pretty awesome.

Just dropping this for the crème brûlée.

I know I'm a plebe but I don't have any caviar.
How much vanilla extract would you use for this?
(I do at least have good extract)

>> No.4595646

about a tea spoon,a dd toward the end, after the cream has been scalded, as extract is more fragile then the seeds.

Or if you have a whole vanilla pod, add the seeds from that + the pod, remove the pod at the end. The pods themself add awesome flavor.

That's pretty much how I make it, except the directions are somewhat vague on adding the hot cream to the egg/sugar mix. Really you should temper the eggs/sugar by adding a couple tablespoons and whisking, continue until warm (maybe 1/3 of the cream). Then you can pour and mix without worrying if it'll cook the eggs.

I love mozzarella too but I think a creamy or a stinky cheese adds a lot more than it does, gorgonzola would be my suggested alternative or a blue.

Piss off, you're making fun of Paula Dean for calling niggers what they are. This isn't the UK and calling a nigger a nigger isn't a crime. All the faggots on TV are saying omg she's deposed and what shall her punishment be... Those are niggers and the definition of the term.

Even Al sharpie sharp Sharpton backed off on this one, because he knows a lot of us remember what he did with Tawana Brawley.
