I've been needing a mixer for a while and I finally have the money to invest in one of these(barely). Should I go for it or are there acceptable, cheaper options?

I've been really into cooking for a few years, and even though I own one of these I never use the thing. Is it really worth dragging out just to make some whipped cream or something?

Been using my arm but I'm getting tired of kneading bread by hand.

What kind of breads do you tend to make? There are other options, but they tend to work better for low hydration doughs. The KA is a jack of all trades, though they are easy to burn out.

Usually french bread or dinner rolls. Id also like to make pizza and bagels.

Then get a KA. Just don't be a sucker and buy a hinge-top Artisan model. They may be cheaper, but they do not perform nearly as well for most breads. Buy a ProHD, instead.

I got one of these from my great grandma when she died.
Holy shit it still works like new.
It's about 90 years old but god DAMN it's a good mixer.

If you will use it a lot then I would suggest getting it, but if it is just gonna sit and gather dust then you might want to look for something else. Also they are really solid and heavy, so if possible you should find room on the counter to keep it so you don't have to pull it down from somewhere every time you want to use it.
