I can attest to this. After separating from the military I got on unemployment for a few weeks while I transitioned to a new job. I was 22 years old and unemployment payed me almost $400/wk just for applying at two places of work per week.

When my dad kicked me out when I was 18, food stamps kept me alive for the two months I was on them. Once I got settled, I found a job and got off them. It's unfortunate to see people abusing them.

I just bought some meat and bread for easy sandwiches. I always feel like the cashiers are judging me for for being on food stamps, but I never buy frivolities like take and bake pizzas or boxes of cookies.
