does /ck/ like casseroles?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Pizza Casserole:

1 (16 ounce) package uncooked rotini pasta
1 lb ground Italian sausage
1 (24 ounce) jar pasta sauce
1 (16 ounce) container cottage cheese
1 (2 1/4 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained (optional)
1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms, drained
12 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
2 (3 ounce) packages sliced pepperoni

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9X13 casserole dish.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Place pasta in the pot, cook for 8 to 10 minutes, until al dente, and drain.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until evenly brown, drain grease. Mix in the cooked pasta and pasta sauce. Pour into prepared casserole dish.

In a bowl, mix the cottage cheese, olives, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese.

Spoon the cheese mixture over the sausage and pasta mixture. Top with pepperoni slices.

Bake 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until bubbly and lightly browned.

my mom makes a porkchop casserole that's really good.

coin enough potatoes to cover the bottom of the dish, cover that with sliced onions, brown 6 chops and put on top of that and then cover the whole mess with 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup

bake that at 350 covered for 1 1/2 hrs and then uncovered for 1/2 hr.

delicious

http://blogchef.net/mexican-casserole-recipe/

Ingredients:
1lb ground beef
1 (1 ¼ ounce) package taco seasoning
1 (15 ounce) can refried beans
2 cups Colby jack cheese
1 cup salsa
1 (2 1/3 ounce) can sliced black olives (drained)
1 tomato (chopped)
2 cups corn chips (crushed)

Step 1: In a large skillet brown ground beef and drain. Add taco seasoning and cook according to package directions by adding the amount of water stated on the package. Set aside. Heat refried beans in a medium sauce pan over medium heat until hot. Stir in 1 cup of cheese and 1 cup of salsa. Stir until combined.
Step 2: Place crushed corn chips onto the bottom of an 8×8” casserole dish. Pour the bean mixture over the chips in the casserole dish. Add taco meat on top of the bean mixture. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheese on top of the taco meat. Sprinkle green onions and black olives over the cheese.
Step 3: Bake in the oven at 375 degrees until the cheese has melted and the casserole is heated through. Take out of the oven and sprinkle with chopped tomatoes.

I'll probably try that...thanks man

That sounds awesome. I abhor cottage cheese but I'm assuming it isn't nearly as bad when mixed in with all that.

Also do you guys ever use the word "hot dish" instead of "casserole", I hear that other parts of the country don't ever use that term and am curious if it's true

It's kind of an antiquated term that you don't hear much in the larger cities. Even in Minneapolis people will recognize the term, but few people except the older generation will use it in conversation. Go to a smaller town in MN, IA, or WI, and people will still say hot dish like it's normal.

>> No.4375417

>>4375382
Sounds about right. My wife considers it an antique regional term from her childhood (she grew up in WI). Her mother lives in a small town and still uses it.

Every time I read the list of ingredients in one of these things I cringe. A package of this, a package of that, a jar of something else, and a can of soup.

Can't say I understand it. Is it some sort of comfort food thing?

>> No.4376131

>>4376109
Yeah, basically. One of my favorite comfort foods from my childhood is a casserole consisting of two canned items and a packaged frozen item. It's ghetto as fuck but it makes me happy.

>>4376109
you can easily make these things with "fresh" ingredients if you choose

>> No.4376196

well, obviously you haven't had real chicago deep dish, which merely uses the bread as a thin capture device for deliciousness.

>> No.4376212

What animal does a fresh pepperoni from and how do I cut it off?

Also, in many baked dishes, dried pasta stands up better during the baking.

But there are only three items in that list that could be replaced with "fresh" versions, and making marinara sauce from scratch to make this particular casserol kills much of the reason you would make it: very little prep time and you can throw out on the oven and forget it without that much improvement in flavor (and in the case of the pasta, a detriment to the texture).

I bet you also try to tell everyone that fresh herbs are always the way to go.

Burrito Casserole

1 lb ground beef or 1 lb ground turkey
1 (1 1/4 ounce) package taco seasoning
6 large flour tortillas
1 (16 ounce) can refried beans
2 -3 cups shredded taco cheese or 2 -3 cups cheddar cheese
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
4 ounces sour cream
jarred hot sauce, if desired to spice it up
1-2 chopped jalapenos
Crushed chips

Directions:

1
Brown ground meat/turkey ; drain.
2
Add taco seasoning and stir in refried beans.
3
Mix soup and sour cream in a separate bowl.
4
Spread 1/2 sour cream mixture in the bottom of a casserole dish.
5
Tear up 3 tortillas and spread over sour cream mixture.
6
Put 1/2 the meat bean mixture over that.
7
Add a layer of cheese.
8
You could put some hot sauce on this now.
9
Repeat the layers.
10
Sprinkle cheese over the top and bake, uncovered, at 350°F for 20-30 minutes.

Was fucking great. Super easy and open to alot off changes.
Just layer the shit how you want really.

I remember making this sunday mornings for brunch. Reheats well for a quick lunch at work or at home. Recipe's mostly from memory.

Orzo sausage casserole

Cup of orzo
Pound of ground sausage meat
Small onion, chopped
One and a half cups of mozzarella, grated
Cup of ricotta
Half cup of fine bread crumbs
Teaspoon of that "italian seasoning" crap

Cook pasta, fry sausage and onion, mix everything together and bake for about twenty minutes at 425deg F. Makes like two litres or something. If you wanna be a faggot you can dust it with paprika like momma used to.
