Wanting to make a cocktail that tastes like root beer. I've had one before that I think was Galliano, Kahlua and coke but it didn't taste quite right.

Thinking about what makes up the taste of root beer and I get vanilla, slight amount of mint, some kind of spice like cinammon or cloves, and the general coke type taste that I'll use as a base, so I was thinking of messing around with vanilla vodka, peppermint schnappes or creme de menthe, and maybe some spiced rum, although it could very well turn out a disgusting mess.

Anyone have any ideas?

I had that because it was the only alcohol I had in the house and thought it'd be a good combination, turns out it really was.

What I'm looking for though is to make a cocktail that tastes like root beer but doesn't contain any, same idea as a flaming Dr Pepper.

Sprecher makes a hard root beer now

Might as well just buy that

I live in the UK, and it doesn't look like I can import it from anywhere. It's expensive enough getting regular Sprecher.

Also half the fun is going to be in tasting and figuring out my own recipe, I just don't want to spend loads of money on booze that I'm not going to use.

I live like 10 miles from the sprecher brewery, they just released this hard root beer like a month or two ago and its all over the place here now in liquor stores

I am actually surprised you can even find their regular root beer outside america

You can't. There's a website that imports loads of US stuff like that that I can't remember the name of. All we get in a couple of stores here are A&W, IBC, Barq's and Mug.

Cheers, that may well come in handy at some point, but everyone's kind of missing the point of what I want to do. I want to make a cocktail that tastes like root beer but doesn't contain any.
