Found this laying around I'd like to know its main purpose in cooking, and possibly if someone could translate it?

Simplified Chinese at the top:
Treasure Dragon

Traditional Chinese down the middle:
Bone-chopping knife

Japanese Katakana at the very bottom (either the font is terrible, or it was drawn by someone who has no idea what the characters should look like):
Stainless

Moon ruins around the "B":
Ask Gandalf.

Simplified Chinese:
Treasure Dragon King of Knives

Looks like a mainland melamine knife pretending to be every other sort of Asian of higher value, marketed strictly to non-Asians (since any Asian who can read any one of those languages would see how tacky it is).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleaver

Since it say's "bone chopping" its a cleaver. You swing it like a hammer and hack at meat, cartilage, and even bone. Oddly enough Chinese kitchen knives can often look like a cleaver but not be, but the "bone" part makes the distinction.

Swing it like a hammer, and cut apart whatever meaty goodness or tough vegetables you desire. Also good for crushing garlic with the flat edge.

He's correct.

This is in fact...Orcrist, the goblin cleaver.

I apologize for my confusion.

Painfully tacky and kitschy.
