I can relate to relatives making bad food, but you came off kind of surly and pissed that she would even offer food to you.
That said, my favorite curries are vindaloos and kormas.

>> No.4302276

>>4302242
My other favourite curry is korma. I can't really handle anything spicy.

I suppose I can relate though. I live in halls with people who order food a lot, make messes, bin decent food, etc.

>> No.4302288

>>4302272
oh, i dint mean to, im just slightly exasperated by her approach to food, and cleaning (i wash the cutlery and plates before i use them, she cant into clean cutlery and plates)

i personally find vindaloos to be more spice than flavour, but ive not actually made one myself so it may well be just the one i tried

>>4302276
kormas arent bad when done right, that lovely creaminess they offer sets them apart from other curries in my opinion

To make it really good, you've got to use the soaked and ground up cashews that most korma recipes call for. That and lots of coconut milk, like the other poster said.

I'd say that the true United States foods are poor working class immigrant varieties of traditional foods. A hamburger in the United States is absolutely nothing like a hamburg steak in Germany.

I would venture the same is true for pizzas and burritos and curries.

>> No.4302557

>>4302540

>nothing like a hamburg steak in Germany
A hamburger was never intended to be anything like a steak, hence why they're made out of fucking ground beef.

As for pizzas, I'm pretty sure we've made them better, rather than worse.

That'd work better if pizza actually originated in Italy and not New York. Granted it was Italian immigrants who did it, but it wasn't an old world dish they were recreating.

I always shake my head reading Amerifats claiming to 'invent' European foods when they're just recreations.
Next Amerifats will be claiming to invent sushi because of the California roll.
>just ignore the science and history that contradicts anything.

It reminds me when I was in Hapan and had to listen to a bunch of Japanese insist for hours they had invented the strawberry.

Americans approach cuisine like cult members.
The only place I think that could be of the same mindset would be North Korea but there's no evidence because they're starving to death and foodless.

If you judge an entire group of people by their loudest and most obnoxious members, you'll get a skewed perspective.

I think most Americans agree that all their food traditions are ultimately derived from others, then subtly adapted and changed.

On that note, the same can be said of almost every single food culture.

I'm a bit skeptical that any American has ever claimed credit for any of those. The inclusion of chop suey sort-of pushes your list into "making shit up" territory.

Or maybe your native informant(s) only meant to credit the U.S. with the differences that those dishes have, compared with their foreign prototypes. Would any Chinese person really want to claim credit for the dish served at greasy Chinese restaurants in the U.S. called chop suey? Do the Belgians want to be recognized for every McDonalds fry? Does Pizza Hut employ authentic Italian recipes, ingredients, and cook methods?
