Girlfriend's mom bought us one of these. They're nice for the convenience factor and that's about it. I laugh when I see a box of 10 hot cocoa k-cups for like $9. The cups in general are kind of expensive but paying that much for hot cocoa when the same company makes a big canister of loose powder for less than half the price is just stupid. Who in their right mind would purchase such a thing?

>> No.4298834

My girlfriend's parents got us one for christmas (2011). I use it a lot, been really enjoying the Folger's Black Silk lately. It's also nice to use for tea, instead of boiling water I just hit a button and the super hot water comes out ready to steep my tea.

I don't get it, how is this really any different than being forced to buy ground coffee and filters? You just put the pod in the machine, you don't have to take any wrapper off, it's easy.

Yeah, I guess, my dad bought it for the family for about 130 at Sam's, and an 80 k-cup pack is 36 dollars there, too.

The convenience is a huge plus, though, you put about 10 cups in the side water dish, put one of those packs in the machine(you don't have to peel the top part off, I thought you had to when I first saw them), then just press the button and it's made in about 45 seconds.

What convenience factor? It's inconvenient to use a spoon to put some coffee grounds into a filter and pour hot water over it?

Not that guy, but I'd be tempted to agree with you if I didn't own one of these myself. It's a nice hot water dispenser but seriously, the coffee from these things is so watered down and has an always-present aroma/flavor of plastic if you carefully smell/taste it.

I don't even get a mild caffeine buzz from a cup from one of these, they're shit, and if you ever open the cups afterwards and look inside you'll see the water doesn't even permeate some of the grounds.

Entire thing is a scam preying on people who have shit taste in coffee unfortunately.

It really isn't that hard to get a halfway decent cup of coffee quick.

1. Grab some beans and grind them to whatever consistency you want while you start to almost boil water. Trader Joes Dark Sumatra is my favorite at the moment.
2. While you wait for the water, clean the grinder.
3. Put the coffee into the press, put the almost boiling water into the press while stirring slowly.
4. Wait 5 minutes
5. Plunge it
6. You have coffee

It really isn't that hard or time consuming. Start the process while you do your three S's or something.

Way to aspie it up and make it sound too complicated for the ADHD kids. Here is how it's done.

2. Boil water and pour it in
3. Wait 5 minutes and press

All that extra "stir gently while whispering sweet lullabies" shit is just ritual shit for foodies, the hair splitting differences aren't going to be noticed by the K cup crowd.

I really wish people would stop over using the term pretentious.

Pretentious wouldn't be someone who has developed a pallet capable of discerning between burnt folgers coffee from a dinner and freshly roasted, single origin; correctly weighed, and carefully ground at a precise size, processed through a syphon immersion method.

Pretentious is someone buying beluga caviar, just because it's the most expensive type of fish egg, but can't discern anything special from it--except that it's "salty" and has a "weird texture". And they haven't tried all the varying rungs to really appreciate subtleties and nuances of each type.

There are differences in quality, and to say there aren't means that either your pallet isn't properly tempered, or you're lying to yourself which is pretentious.

Enjoying a Keurig coffee as we speak (Green Mountain Co.).

I was steadfast against them but my gf started working early and would be leaving the house at 5:00am. So I bought one for her so she could have a quick coffee and I really like it.

On the weekend we make espressos or use a drip machine, vacuum pot, etc. but I pretty much have my one Keurig coffee every morning mon-fri.

It is still cheaper than buying a coffee at the local coffee shop and much more convenient. The quality isn't as good as the local coffee shop, but it is definitely acceptable.

I prefer to drink my coffee at home, or at my desk at work. That's why I make coffee with a V60 to drink while reading the news first thing in the morning, and then I get a cup at the coffee truck around the corner from work to drink at my desk.
