My first attempt at doing these damn black beans/mushroom burgers. Does it look good..?

Not at all

Objectively, it looks okay. But that's not a very good picture.
Are you using a food processor to make them? Also, I find ground nuts to be an excellent binder and texture improvement in bean-mushroom patties.

This is part of the reason why people look down on veggiefags

I know it looks like shit. But it's actually good.
I just followed a recipe that told em to use break crumbs/flour
No, i didn't use a food processor. Might be the reason why it's all clumpy

Seconded.

>I want to eat meat, but I just don't want to eat meat!

Go invent something unique rather than replacing meat in dishes with some bastard textured protein or bean patty.

>vegan fried chicken
>vegan turkey
>vegan hot dogs
>vegan corned beef
>vegan meatloaf (at least call it lentil loaf and I'll let it slide)
>vegan po'boy

I'm not even making this shit up. It exists and it's frightening.

I'm down with falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush,. I'd proudly eat any of that. I'm even down with tofu.

The rest of this shit needs to end.

Yeah, I'd use a food processor next time. You don't have to buy a fancy one, I bought mine on sale for $20 and it's works great. Just get one with at least an 8 cup bowl.
Personally, I don't use bread crumbs at all when I make veg patties. I just use a moist bean, like black eyed peas or cannelini beans or pintos, then some minced, sauteed onions, garlic and mushrooms, and some nuts that have been finely ground in the food processor (I find that walnuts or pecans work best for this, but you can use whatever you like). Plus seasonings, of course (I usually add pepper, salt, whatever fresh herbs I have laying around, Worcestershire sauce (optional if your a veggie fag, but I'm not), a dash of hot sauce, and whatever else I fee like). Then I form into patties and bake instead of pan frying, because I can use less oil (but of course you can pan fry if you want to.)

Î stopped eating meat after I started leaving alone. You know, eating meat at every meal gets tiresome.

Clumpy? It looks like animal poo.

I'm a huge meat-eater but holy shit, its not that fucking hard to make vegetables look palateable. Go make some nice dahl or eat some fucking hummus. Abstaining from meat is a very recent (and retarded) thing in the west, and trying to make western dishes without meat is a fail waiting to happen. Go look for indian or japanese recipes instead of butchering meat ones.

Because it's vegetarian (probably not vegan, though) and we all know that vegetarians eat a fuckload of carbs to fill up. I'd rather just eat a fried pork chop, and roasted vegetables. More bang for the buck -- nutritionally speaking.

There's been a huge anti-vegetarian thing going on lately on this board by a likely samefag that needs a lot of inconsequential and temporary psychiopath attention after performing poorly in some shitty /b/ raid.

I eat meat probably 4-5 times a day. I don't give a shit about anyone's agenda but occasionally I'm absolutely enthralled by something vegetarian.

I don't just mean sauteeing a bunch of vegetables with tofu and emulating a dish poorly with some rubber in the middle.

Sometimes even the people who are aiming for vegetarian recreations of dishes that involve a lot of meat, realize the essence of that dish and try 100 times harder to recreate than 90% of the people who consider it just some random untouchable thing just because they vaguely adhered to the parameters that involve something like bread and meat.

The vegetarian approach to seasoning and refortmatting and altering and doing weird shit to tofu or whatever

is 100000000 times more exciting than you buying some kit at the super market and tossing it all in the microwave or in a fryer or baking premade shit and doing shit else.

This is a vegan or vegetarian reuben, I don't remember which one, nor do I care. Yours probably fucking sucks. There's a billion ways to make anything taste good and you just want to bitch about vegans. They're not the ones holding food back, YOU FUCKING ARE.

This anti-vegan thing isn't a "lately" thing. It's been going on as long as the board has existed, and it mainly sources from the fact that the majority of the people on this board are WASPs with extra weight and a lot of insecurities. So they see someone trying to improve their lot or otherwise act differently than the majority, and we get... well, this. Same reason people posting competently prepared food get bashed and sagebombed to hell. Same reason the board is full of ramen and fast food threads. Same reason America vs. Europe threads are very, very easy to start. Same reason why any and all "ethnic" cuisine threads flood with thinly veiled, superficially politically correct passive-aggressive racism. Same reason why school food threads turn into enormous partisan rows.

So shut the fuck up, sit down, and enjoy your McRib, because that's what you're going to get from here.
