Trying a local beer I haven't had before. Or I will be, I haven't opened it yet. Hopefully it'll be good.

I'm working on a pint of pic related. I've been on an IPA kick here lately and this one caught me by surprised. I'm so used to the extreme hopped up west coast IPA's, this one is a nice change of pace. Its barely even bitter, its got more of a sour finish. Not the best I've had but I think its pretty fair quality.

You did good. If I really really was forced to bestow the title of "best beer ever" on just one beer, it would be that one.

>> No.4168935

>>4168930
Yeah, definitely the best IPA I have had. There are a few stouts I would put ahead of it, but its tough to compare the two categories

Stout drinkers, I have a question. What is the correct kind of glass to drink such a beer out of? Better yet, is there a guide somewhere for beer type - glass pairings? Or does it not really matter?

Thank you, that looks like pretty much exactly what I was hoping for.

Usually drink whiskey / brandy and I'm just getting into good beer. Those two are way easier for glassware, as they each essentially have one glass that's the definitive 'correct glass' (the glencairn and the snifter). Though admittedly I thin that a glencairn glass is just as good for brandy as whiskey.

Fucking foul beer you got there mate. I love beer, some are better than others but almost any beer tastes awesome to me. This stuff gives me a bellyache just thinking about it.

you have a lot of beer left to taste, because that's a pretty standard imperial stout

Yea, I'm new to venturing out into beer. I'm trying to try different styles and varieties by as many brewers as I can. I've got a ton of learning to do but so far I've deduced that I favor wheat beers and IPA's and don't much like stouts. Of course there are exeptions, I've had decent stouts and bad IPA's, I'm just saying that I don't think I like stouts very much and this one was one of the worst I've had.

Early on I had Troegs' doppelbock (whatever it's called) and thought it was some crazy ass sorta weird shit

But recalling this a few months ago I had it again, having had and loved other doppelbocks, and it was basically a good doppelbock

I dunno, keep at it

>> No.4169393

I'm pretty much exactly the reverse. I find most IPAs and similar beers way too hoppy and bitter, but I love stouts and porters and other dark beers. Old Rasputin isn't a top-notch stout or anything but it's certainly decent.

Was in the US for a business trip a few years back and made the stupid decision to try Dogfish Head, not knowing it's almost impossible to find in Australia.
Now every beer I drink I wish I was drinking a Dogfish Head.
I has a sad.
